Traditionally, holidays are symbolic with hot cider, presents and wonderful uplifting music, however some children in the underserved sections of the Kansas City community families are struggling to meet basic needs which leaves a tremendous void during the holiday season. Twelfth Street Heritage Development Corporation is honored and privileged to provide the “19th annual Santa’s Wonderland” event to meet a significant gap in the community. Cumulatively, our organization has provided more than 17,000 children with a special toy, bike, doll or small electronic. “We’ve touched the lives of so many children over the years because of the generosity of local businesses and corporations”, stated Dwayne Williams, Executive Director. Registration is not required, however it is recommended that families assemble as early as 3pm. Santa Train Rides Saturdays Nov 30 - Dec 7, 2013 at Belton, Grandview, & Kansas City Railroad 502 E. Walnut St. Belton, MO. Santa is coming back to visit the Belton, Grandview, & Kansas City Railroad this year. Santa will ride along for a 45 minute train ride, will visit with guests, and will stop for photos if you wish, all while the train moves down the track. Be sure to bring a camera! Sing songs and talk to Santa about activities at the North Pole. After the train, Santa will await the kids in a different train car, so little ones may sit on Santa's lap to share Christmas wishes. He even has a small gift for the children. The Railroad will serve hot chocolate and a cookie for each passenger. The Gift Shop will be open too! Reservations are required! There will be no ticket sales on the day of the train ride. Reservations are processed in the order they are received. Only 50 seats are available per train and they sell quickly. The cost is $14 per passenger three years and older. All tickets will be handled on a "will call" basis, and can be picked up on the day of the train ride.

Liberty Community Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony Nov 21, 2013 from 6:30 pm until 7:30 pm at Historic Liberty Missouri. The evening’s events will culminate with the flip of a switch turning on the thousands of lights trimming the historic buildings around the square. Free cookies and hot chocolate will be available. This event serves as the kick off for the Liberty Community Christmas Tree Program. Donations will be welcomed to help support the LCCT, which lends a hand to disadvantaged Liberty families and seniors during the holiday season. In 2012, the Liberty Community Christmas Tree provided food and gifts to 273 families with 699 children and food to another 135 households. The Community Christmas Tree coordinators are working to raise $30,000. Celebrate the season of giving by providing a monetary donation at the lighting ceremony to help disadvantaged families in Liberty.

The ceremonies begin at 6:30 p.m. in Howard Station Park in Downtown Lee’s Summit. Ryan Lefebvre, Royals announcer, is the master of ceremonies. This year’s annual event features free hot cocoa, cookies and live performances. Santa, Mrs. Claus and their elves arrive via fire truck to visit children at Howard Station Park; so bring a camera to take photos with Santa. Carriage rides also will be offered for a fee. Fishmas Carol Singing (Weekends): From time to time our SEA LIFE Carolers (also known as “Coralers”) will be strolling the aquarium singing some holiday songs that are slightly different than those you’ve heard before. It won’t be long before your family is singing along to “Jelly Bells” and “We Wish You a Merry Fishmas”.

Park Place Winter Warm-Up Nov 21 -24 at Park Place 11551 Ash Street Leawood, KS. The second annual “Winter Warm-Up” returns to Park Place, kicking off the holiday season with four days of holiday festivities Nov. 21-24, 2013. Alexander Majors Holiday Programming Nov 21, 2013 from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Alexander Majors House Barn 8201 State Line Road Kansas City , MO. The Alexander Majors House will launch its holiday programming by dedicating and presenting its restored grand box piano built in 1870, an important part of the Majors House collection and history. For the two years, Dr. Bruce Prince-Joseph, the Museums' Honorary Music Director, and cellist and pianist James Upton have been restoring the piano, which is in the north parlor room of the Majors House. Now in his late 80s, Dr. Bruce Prince-Joseph was the lead organist, harpsichordist, and pianist for Leonard Bernstein’s New York Philharmonic for over twenty years. Dr. Prince-Joseph will formally dedicate the piano to the Majors House, demonstrate key aspects of the restoration process, and do a musical performance with local vocalists Victoria Caine and the Reverend Jeffrey Hon. Tickets are $20 per person.
