Before the cold winter weather sets in reserve a weekend afternoon to take your little monkeys to the zoo for a day they’ll remember. A recent study found that when asked what job they’d like to have as an adult, nearly 20% of children said they wanted to work at a zoo. I can relate to this statistic since my youngest claims that he wants to be a pet store owner. With nearly 900 animals and new ones arriving every few months, it’s never the same visit twice!
The Kansas City Zoo sits on 200 acres of rolling hills nestled into Swope Park, so you’ll want to wear your walking shoes. Because some of the animals have large areas in which to roam you may also want to bring a pair of binoculars so that your children can get an even better look.
Their new KidZone area is growing and growing. Late this summer the Discovery Barn opened and has been getting rave reviews. It’s the perfect place to come inside for a bit and enjoy a comfortable chair while the kids enjoy some of the smaller zoo critters and the two-story slide.
The zoo is open every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day.
