Designed for individuals, families, caregivers, educators, and professionals, the conference brings together leading experts within the disability and autism fields and delivers up-to-date and high-quality resources, trainings, and tactics to those impacted by autism.
Keynote speaker Christina Low Kapalu, Ph.D., is a child psychologist at Children’s Mercy Hospital and the clinical assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine.
In her presentation, “Behavior Management for Children with Autism and Developmental Disabilities,” Kapalu will be discussing behavior management for children with autism and developmental disabilities, covering common problem behaviors associated with autism and other developmental disabilities, and providing a behavioral framework for understanding those behaviors and developing evidence-based interventions and strategies parents and caregivers can use to apply those practices to everyday life.
The rest of the day is comprised of numerous breakout sessions including: “Autism and Employment” presented by Ann Schad; “Autism Treatment from a Trauma Perspective: Regulating the Brain for Better Outcomes” presented by Robert Cox; “Strategies to Improve Sleep in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder” presented by Alicia Curran; and “Using Interests and Preferences to Guide Programming for Individuals With Autism Spectrum Disorder” by Cari Ebert.
