Easterseals Midwest Hosts Autism Conference Series in Kansas City Nov. 14
Nationally known author and CEO of Learning Momentum to speak at Kauffman Foundation Conference Center
October 24, 2018 (Kansas City, MO) – The Easterseals Midwest Autism Conference Series will continue in Kansas City on November 14 at the Kauffman Foundation Conference Center. Designed for individuals, parents, educators, and professionals, the annual conference unites nationally recognized developmental disability and autism experts from around the country.
The featured keynote speaker will be Amy Buie, M.Ed., BCBA, LBA. Amy is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst with over 25 years of experience with students who have challenging and explosive behavior. Her presentation is called “Strategies for Bringing out the Best in Children: Promoting Positive Behavior in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.” Amy is the founder and CEO of Learning Momentum, an agency that provides training and behavior consultation to schools and families who work with children with explosive behavior. She is also the founder of The Center for Autism Education, a not-for-profit school for children and adults with both developmental disabilities and emotional disorders. Amy is the author of several books, including Behavior Mapping: A Visual Strategy for Teaching Appropriate Behavior to Children with Autism and Related Disorders, and Rage to Reason: Behavior Intervention for the Treatment of Explosive Behavior in Children with Emotional Disorders, co-authored with Tara Hays, MPA, MA, BCBA, LBA.
Conference workshops and presentations include:
- Alicia Curran – A parent who shares her personal experience raising a son with autism spectrum disorder. Alicia works at the University of Missouri Thompson Center for Autism Neurodevelopmental Disorders.
- Julie Josendale, MS, BCBA, LBA - Julie is a licensed and Board Certified Behavior Analyst with over 20 years of experience working with individuals with autism and other
developmental delays. She will talk about self-regulation skills for individuals of all functioning levels.
- Megan Tregnago, M.Ed., MHA, BCBA, LBA - Megan is a licensed and Board Certified Behavior Analyst. She is the Manager of ABA Services and Training for Easterseals Midwest Central office. This presentation will review the core principles of the Early Start Denver Model, a social-emotional approach based in ABA.
- Valerie Baker - As the mother of a young man with Down syndrome, Valerie has a passion for working with families who also have loved ones with special needs. She works with families to ensure that they are protected in the short-term and have a long-term achievable plan to meet their financial goals. This workshop will discuss 10 basic steps to help caregivers get started in preparing for the financial future of their dependent with special needs.
