The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum (NLBM) will host the 2019 Heart of America Hot Dog Festival, presented by Hy-Vee and Farmland, Saturday, August 10, 2019 near the 18th & Vine Historic District. The event features live entertainment, food, and more. Created by the NLBM in 2013, the Hot Dog Festival celebrates the historical connection between our national pastime and baseball fan’s favorite ballpark food; the hot dog. Proceeds benefit the NLBM.
Headlining the scheduled musical guest list for the 2019 Festival are R&B/Rock legends WAR, Funk/R&B masters THE GAP EXPERIENCE (The Gap Band), and soul singing legend HOWARD HEWETT. More entertainment to be announced.

FESTIVAL LOCATION: The festival will again be held on Martin Luther King Boulevard (formerly Paseo BLVD) near the 18th & Vine District, between East 18th Street and Truman Road.
SAVE ON ADVANCED GENERAL ADMISSION TICKETS BEFORE JULY 19!: Save up to $15.00 off your single adult admission tickets if you purchase online before July 19. Prices will increase at midnight!
SKIP THE LONGER ENTRANCE LINES WITH ADVANCE TICKETS: More entrances will be added to the festival (near 18th Street on the South/Main entrance and near Truman Road on the North) to accomodate advanced ticket purchasers. Skip the longer lines with ticket buyers and present your Eventbrite advanced purchased ticket/reciept.
VIP EXPERIENCE PACKAGES: Packages will be available for premium seating and food access near the front of festival, closest to the performance stage.
ALL ONLINE SALES END THURSDAY AUGUST 8, 2019. EventBrite ticket fees will apply on all online sales. Limited numbers of tickets will be sold onsite the day of the event.
TICKETS: PLEASE PRINT ALL ONLINE TICKET RECIEPTS TO EXCHANGE FOR SECURE FESTIVAL WRISTBANDS AT THE ENTRANCE.
NLBM: Negro Leagues Baseball Museum will be open for it's regular hours 9:00 am - 6:00 pm. Museums at 18th & Vine complex will close at 6:00 pm. Your ticket includes admission to the museum (one half block away from the festival site).
RAIN OR SHINE EVENT: This is a rain or shine event, scheduled for August 10. No refunds or rainchecks on the day of the event.
FESTIVAL GROUNDS: All activities are scheduled outdoors in a secure fenced area on the MLK Blvd bordered by east 18th Street (south) and Truman Road (north). Perimeter established for event ticket holders only.
SEATING: Special premium seating (chairs and some tables provided) near the main stage will be available for ticketed VIP guests and Sponsors. Special seating sections for handicapped patrons or those with special needs will be marked on the flat street surfaces just beyond the VIP area. There will be limited seating on street as well for other patrons. This is the only seating availbe on the street surfaces to provide a flat area for patrons with wheelchairs/walkers. Remaining seating areas are for patrons to enjoy the grassy area of the median with blankets or lawn chairs. These seating areas will be segmented into large sections to provide aisle, walking paths for patrons, staff and security to move safely throughout the festival. For your safety, patrons must not block aisles and should establish seats on the grass areas only and not in the streets or sidewalks.
WHAT YOU CAN BRING: Lawn chairs and umbrellas can be brought into the festival grounds. Please be mindful of umbrellas that may obstruct the view of other patrons.
WHAT YOU CAN NOT BRING: Outside food, drinks, coolers or large cooler bags, and outside alcohol are prohibited from being brought onto the festival grounds. Food and drinks will be sold at the festival. Also, please do not bring tents or canopies.
SMOKE FREE FESTIVAL: Although this is an outdoor environment, smoking is not allowed under festival tents and will be discouraged on the festival grounds per instructions from the KCFD-Fire Marshall.
NO PETS PLEASE: Only assistive animals (as well as those part of any entertainment) are allowed on the festival grounds.
CHILDREN: Children must be accompanied AT ALL TIMES by an adult while on the festival grounds.
RESTROOMS AVAILABLE: Portable restroom facilities and hand washing stations will be available on the festival grounds.
PARKING: Parking now available closer to festival grounds on 18th Street just west of Paseo (one-two blocks walking from the festival). Parking will also be available in lots east of the museum at 18th & Woodland (old Attucks School)as well as on street parking throughout the district, Truman Road east near Parade Park, and South on Paseo. There will be other activities in the district that day that will impact traffic and parking, so arrive early for your best choice. Please note signage for no parking areas. Vehicles may be ticketed and towed. There are no reserved parking spaces.
FIRST AID AND PERSONAL HEALTH: A staffed First Aid tent will be provided during the festival. All patrons must be mindful of their personal health needs, stay hydrated and not over indulge during the festival.
SECURITY AND WEAPONS: The festival grounds and parking areas will be patrolled by uniformed members of the Kansas City Police department and contracted private security. A security checkpoint will be placed at each entrance to the festival. No concealed weapons of any kind will be allowed on the festival grounds. Please secure any other items in the trunk of your car.
ATM MACHINES: There are currently two (2) ATM machines located in the district. One sits outside the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum entrance inside the Museums at 18th & Vine Complex. This will be available until 6:00 pm. The other sits outside the front entrance of the Lincoln Building, 1615 East 18th Street and is available 24 hours.
