Celebrate National Trails and Prairie Day with KC Parks at a Party on the Prairie! Enjoy family and environmentally friendly activities amidst the flora and fauna of Jackson County’s only remnant prairie. Live music, guided trail hikes, bird walks, hay rides, plein air quick paint competition, scavenger hunt, prairie touch table from Lakeside Nature Center and more!

8:15 a.m. Bird Walk with Sherry Leonardo, Burroughs Audubon Society
8-9 a.m.: Quick Paint Artist Check-in
9 a.m. Prairie Hike with Tom Schroeder, Master Naturalist, KC Wildland’s Volunteer – 1.25 mile loop hike – learn about the amazing things that live in the world’s most endangered ecosystem – the tallgrass prairie! Not appropriate for wheel chairs or strollers.
9-11 a.m.: Quick Paint Competition
9 a.m.-Noon.: Live Music, Hay Rides, Prairie Touch Table, Prairie Scavenger Hunt
10:30 a.m. Prairie Hike Lite with Tom Schroeder – short, accessible walk to the overlook and back
11 a.m.: Free Hot Dog, Chips and Water (served until we run out)
11-11:30 a.m.: Quick Paint Voting (People’s Choice)
11:45 a.m.: Quick Paint Purchase Award
