Line Creek Community Center, Kansas City, Mo. Located in Frank Vaydik Park, this community center contains a spacious indoor ice rink. Admission costs $8 during open skate hours, and skate rentals are only $3. During homeschool skate hours, admission is a mere $4, and skate rentals are free! The community center also offers skating classes through Learn to Skate KC.
Crown Center Ice Terrace, Kansas City, Mo. You can’t talk about Kansas City’s ice rinks without mentioning this iconic spot! Now in its 53rd year, this outdoor rink provides all-day skating sessions, with admission priced at $10 per person and skate rentals costing $6. The rink is ADA-compliant, so wheelchair users can enjoy the ice as well. If you work up an appetite, stop by the concession stand, where you can purchase hot chocolate, coffee, hot dogs, nachos and more.
T.B. Hanna Station, Raymore, Mo. Every winter, T.B. Hanna Station’s pavilion changes into an outdoor ice rink. Strings of lights hang from the overhead canopy, creating a cozy atmosphere for nighttime skaters. The park also has heaters and fire pits to keep visitors warm. On weekends, skate rentals are available for $5.
Independence Community Ice, Independence. Growing up, I spent many an afternoon at this ice rink! The facility is clean, the ice is smooth and the open skate sessions provide an excellent way to meet other families. Admission fees range from $7 to $10 during public skating hours, and skate rentals cost $5. Independence Community Ice also offers skating and hockey lessons, a figure skating club, party packages and homeschool skate times.
KC Ice Center, Shawnee. Whether your family prefers figure skating, hockey or open skate days, you’ll have a fantastic time at the KC Ice Center. The arena offers hockey and skating classes, homeschool skate sessions and open skate hours. During public skate hours, admission costs $10 per person, and skate rentals cost $5. Some of the open skate sessions have unique costume themes, such as ’80s Night or Sports Team Night, so keep an eye on the website to stay up-to-date!
