- Little free libraries
I love stopping at the Little Free Libraries in people’s yards. You can drop off a book while grabbing a new title! Check out the map of where to find these little libraries at LittleFreeLibrary.org.
- Thrift stores
The first aisle I go to in any thrift store is the book section! I keep a list of book titles I’m hoping to find in my Notes app on my phone so I can quickly check it while browsing titles. I always have success at Savers!
- Booksellers on Facebook and Instagram
I have found so many books on Facebook and Instagram by following used booksellers and watching and commenting during their live book sales! My favorite used bookseller on Instagram is @LittleHoney_Bookshop. She always has so many great titles!
- “Buy Nothing” groups on Facebook
Quite often in my local Buy Nothing group, there are people who are trying to clear their bookshelves and are giving titles away for free!
- Used book stores
There are several used booksellers in the KC metro if you want to browse in an actual brick-and-mortar store. Prospero’s Bookstore on 39th Street in Kansas City, Mo., is one of my favorite shops! Basement Books KC in Liberty is another great place to check out!
- Host a used book exchange with friends
Gather a group of friends, set up some tables, throw out some snacks and host a book exchange! This way everyone can clear books they no longer need off their shelves and go home with new titles!
- Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library
Children up to the age of 5 can be registered with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and receive a free book each month! I have two children who currently fit into the age category, and they both receive different books each month. You can check to see if you qualify at ImaginationLibrary.com.
