From meeting mermaids and pirates to spotting Ollie the Otter, the Zoo’s beloved mascot, little explorers will be delighted by the surprises waiting around each corner as they embark on their hidden treasure quest. Our GloWild Experience
We had such a wonderful time experiencing GloWild! We visited midweek on a Thursday evening, and it was the perfect way to enjoy the event at a relaxed pace. My biggest recommendation is to plan your visit around twilight. Arriving while there is still some daylight allows you to enjoy the zoo atmosphere and see some of the details along the path, but once the sun goes down, the glowing attractions truly take center stage and the entire experience transforms into something magical.
The mile-long walking path was a fun way to explore the zoo after dark, and I loved that it was both an entertaining outing and a pleasant way to get my steps in. Between the glowing lantern sculptures, interactive experiences, and fall photo opportunities, there were plenty of reasons to slow down and take in the adventure.
One of my favorite parts of GloWild was that it felt like more than just walking through a light display—it truly felt like an adventure. Between searching for hidden treasures, discovering new glowing scenes, and interacting with characters along the way, there was always something new to experience. It kept my little explorer engaged from beginning to end.
My little one loved all of the kid-friendly activities throughout the evening. The John Deere tractor rides were a huge hit, and pumpkin decorating was another favorite stop. He also enjoyed catching a few glimpses of the animals along the way—especially the goats, which remain one of his favorites!
Beyond the lantern displays, there were plenty of other highlights that made the evening memorable. One of the unexpected treats was that carousel rides are included for free during GloWild (6–9 p.m., weather permitting), making it an extra-special stop for little adventurers. We loved riding the endangered species carousel, and the “Cannonball” train was easily a fan favorite. With lights surrounding the ride, it felt like another little adventure tucked into the evening.
Planning Your GloWild Visit
Since GloWild takes you along a mile-long walking path, plan to dress comfortably and wear good walking shoes. If you’re visiting with little ones, a stroller or wagon is definitely a good idea—the extra walking can add up!
Families are welcome to bring standard backpacks or day bags, and small coolers or ice chests are allowed if you want to pack snacks or a picnic meal to enjoy in the Zoo’s outdoor picnic areas before or during your visit. A few simple preparations can make the evening even more enjoyable.
