As a mom, I love when an event feels special but is still manageable with little ones, and Pumpkin Hollow checks all the boxes for a memorable autumn adventure.
My twins had been talking about the wagon ride all week, so they were thrilled when we arrived and saw the beautiful draft horses ready to pull families down to Pumpkin Hollow. The horse-drawn wagon ride was more than just transportation. It felt like part of the experience and instantly set the tone for a classic fall day at the farm.
The fun begins when families follow the Pumpkin Hollow signs from the entrance to the Wagon Depot. After the wagon ride, kids can choose their own adventure with plenty of activities to explore. Families can wind their way through the corn maze, race on pedal cars, play pumpkin tic-tac-toe, test their aim at the slingshot, dig through the corn pit, and more.
Our animal-loving kids especially enjoyed the opportunity to interact with the goats along the way. It was the perfect combination of fall fun and farm favorites, which is exactly what makes Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead such a beloved Kansas City destination.
Of course, no pumpkin event is complete without a pumpkin! Before heading back, each child gets to pick out their own pumpkin from the pumpkin patch to take home. It was the perfect ending to the experience and gave the kids a special reminder of their fall adventure.
When I asked the kids about their favorite part on the drive home, the older boys unanimously chose the corn maze, while the younger ones declared the corn pit the winner. With activities designed for a variety of ages, Pumpkin Hollow offers something every child can enjoy.
One thing I especially appreciated about Pumpkin Hollow was that it felt like the perfect fall add-on to a place Kansas City families already know and love. We visited with another family, bringing a total of eight kids between us, and I was impressed by how easy it was for everyone to enjoy the experience without feeling overwhelmed.
Unlike some larger pumpkin patches that can feel like a lot to navigate with younger children, Pumpkin Hollow is conveniently contained within the farmstead. Parents can keep the group together while still giving kids plenty of opportunities to explore, play, and make memories.

Before You Go: A Few Mom Tips
Buy tickets ahead of time.
Save yourself some time when you arrive by purchasing Pumpkin Hollow tickets online before your visit. You can skip the ticket booth line and head straight into the fun.
Leave the stroller behind (or plan ahead).
While strollers work well on the paved paths throughout the main farmstead, they are not practical inside Pumpkin Hollow. To reach the hollow, families take a horse-drawn wagon ride, and strollers cannot come aboard. If you bring one, you’ll need to leave it at the wagon boarding area during the activities. That said, having a stroller can still be helpful afterward for carrying pumpkins and other items back to your car.
Plan your timing.
Weekday hours are shorter, so if you are visiting Tuesday–Thursday, plan for a morning outing since Pumpkin Hollow closes at 1 p.m. Weekend hours offer a little more flexibility if you want to enjoy the experience at a slower pace.
