Have your kids ever wished their favorite book was a movie or play? I know my oldest son does. Does your child walk around singing instead of talking? Again, I am describing my children, maybe myself as well. Thankfully, The Coterie Theatre can help with that! Now showing at The Coterie: A Year with Frog and Toad.

As my son was learning to read, the Frog and Toad series was recommended to us. They are fun family read-alouds with wonderful lessons for children on friendship and how to treat each other. I was thrilled when I heard The Coterie was putting on this show. To prepare for the show, we reread some of the books, and my son was amazed when he recognized the stories.

A Year with Frog and Toad combines short stories from six different books of the series to follow these two friends, joined by some others, in a year of friendship with Frog and Toad. Frog and Toad have a different adventure in each season of the year. The moral of the story is all about friendship.
My kids really loved feeling like they were a part of the show. The Coterie has special floor seating for this show, and the actors use the whole room to move around. Since it is immersive, it is very important that if your kids are sitting on the floor, they stay within the taped carpet area. You can leave to use the bathroom, but just be watchful for the actors. The costumes are fun and colorful, and Frog and Toad’s outfits match the books perfectly. The actors also do a wonderful job at making you feel like you are in the story with them. We personally love the comedy that Toad and Snail bring to the play. Get ready to laugh, want to call your friends, and see this hopping show again!

Some important things to remember are to get your parking validation at the box office when you check in. Some shows are already sold out because seating is limited, so get your tickets now! Everyone needs a ticket—even my almost 2-year-old needed a ticket. Arrive early to get good seats; the doors open 30 minutes before the show starts. No food or drink is allowed in the theater. You can leave strollers and wagons in the waiting area outside of the theater doors. For children who have visual or sound sensitivities, they do have a room where the child can regulate.
