Editor's Letter

In 1943, Rodgers & Hammerstein pined that “everything’s up to date in Kansas City,” and we’re proud to say that’s true. From the recent addition of the KC Streetcar to Downtown Kansas City to our state-of-the-art Kauffman Performing Arts Center to the world-class Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and the brand new exhibits at the Kansas City Zoo—we’re proud of our city and excited to share it with you. The beautification of our city, new attractions plus improvements to beloved favorites and the successes for the Kansas City Royals, Chiefs and Sporting KC have put KC on the map as a great place to raise a family and a great place to visit.

This fall, I look forward to visiting our favorite pumpkin patches and cider mills. Fall boasts so many terrific festivals that it’s hard to choose a favorite. Apple Fest in Weston, the Plaza Art Fair, Glow: A Jack- o’-Lantern Festival at Powell Gardens and the KC Japan Festival are just a few of my favorites. And it wouldn’t be autumn in Kansas City without the American Royal. The annual rodeo, barbecue competition and festival are a Midwest tradition you don’t want to miss.

Before we know it, autumn will give way to winter and that means our favorite holiday traditions, starting with the lighting of the Country Club Plaza Christmas lights. Then, we make plans to see our favorite holidays shows, from The Nutcracker at the Kansas City Ballet to A Christmas Carol at the KC Repertory Theater. We’re also looking forward to the return of Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer at the Coterie. With beautiful holiday light displays and traditions, Christmas in Kansas City truly is magical.

When we’re not enjoying seasonal favorites, we love taking in a First Friday in the Crossroads or Third Thursday in Martin City. There’s always something to enjoy in Kansas City.

These are just a few of the things I enjoy about Kansas City. You’ll find many more as you flip through the pages of KC Going Places.

Welcome to Kansas City! We’re happy you’re here and we hope you love it just as much as we do!
