Letter from the Editor: April 2010

As warmer temps come our way, thoughts turn to spending time in the great outdoors! For many, springtime and warmer temps mean gardening and tending to the yard. I have a very dear friend, Lisa, who loves to garden--every aspect of it. I, on the other hand, don’t have much talent or desire. But what I do like is the final product. So for the past several years, Lisa has tried her best to help me get some plants growing in my yard. While not a complete success, I am getting better and my yard prettier, thanks to her efforts. Maybe you love it or maybe you are more like me, but either way, gardening is a great pastime for families. Elizabeth Welter has some fantastic ideas on how you can “Grow a Gardener”.

In order to grow that garden, we need rain, and as the saying goes, “April showers bring May flowers.” I think both Tori and Ally would say their favorite way to spend a rainy day is playing out in the rain. As you know we are celebrating 25 years of KC Parent this year. We were thrilled in March as the magazine was honored with nine awards at the annual Parenting Publications of America convention, including several awards for our covers, two editorial awards and three for our website. We are proud to have received the gold award for most improved publication! As we look to the next 25 years, we also look forward to continuing to improve upon and produce a quality publication each month that you can rely on as you make your way through this journey we call parenthood.
