American Royal Rodeo

by

This past weekend we were able to take the whole family to the American Royal – such a rich part of our history in Kansas City. I LOVED the opening of the rodeo with the singing of The Star Spangled Banner, opening prayer and reminder of how wonderful it is to live in a free country where folks are allowed to follow their dreams.

It’s hard to believe that the American Royal began in a tent in the KC Stockyards over 100 years ago. I remember as a little girl, my folks taking me down to the American Royal. Here’s a fun little movie with great footage of history of the American Royal: American Royal Video

Last year, the kids went on a field trip to the American Royal and learned about life on a farm (milking a cow, churning burtter, and more) and were able to tour the American Royal Museum. I got to tag along as a chaperone – it was so enjoyable and educational.

The American Royal still has numerous great events on the schedule for November 2010:

Tablescapes: November 3-4

Unbelievable Horse Happenings: November 4-7

Barrel Race: November 5-7

Cutting Horse Show: November 10-12

UPHA Saddle Horse Championship: November 16-20

UPHA Stake Night: November 20

Black Tie & Tails: November 20

It’s hard to believe people come from all over the country for the American Royal and it’s right here in our backyard. This is just another great reason why I love raising our family in Kansas City….there ain’t no place like home!
