Visiting Johnson Farms Plants & Pumpkins

2020 Edition

by

Every year, our family visits Johnson Farms Pumpkin Patch. On the drive to the patch, my girls chatter excitedly as they anticipate their favorite attractions at the patch: beautiful sunflowers, giant pumpkins, the pumpkin cannon, the pumpkin chomping dragon, the GIANT jumping pillows, fun play areas, barnyard arcade, picking fresh veggies and apples... their list of favorites is long. MY favorite things include the outstanding hospitality of their team and the agritourism experience.

Johnson Farms Pumpkin Patch is friendly, clean, and overflowing with farm fun you won't find at your nearby park. As a working farm, this is a great agricultural field trip with animals and a real farm to explore.

We love riding the hay wagon into the field to pick apples, pumpkins, and fresh veggies and explore their amazing maze! This year you have three options: a short labyrinth, a longer labyrinth, or a corn maze (ideal for various skill levels and amounts of time).

At Johnson Farms, they have one of the largest real pumpkin patches in the area with small, medium, and large pumpkins to pick off the vine. Ride the hay wagon out to the field and pick your own pumpkin! They also provide wheelbarrows to help transport your pumpkins, apples, and veggies back to the main building. You may park your wheelbarrow in their "lot" while you play.

All of my girls love the fall flowers and this year's sunflower field. They also love picking fresh vegetables in the field and apples in their orchard.

Visitors are welcome to enjoy lunch at the Barnyard Grill where they serve sweet corn (on weekends), hot dogs, nachos, and snacks. And, most importantly, they make fabulously delicious pumpkin donuts! The girls love the cider slushes. Seriously, this is excellent food and you'll want to plan to stay for lunch. On weekend visits, you will enjoy live music as you eat.

What to Know Before You Go 2020:

Our Pumpkin Patch Tips:

Some of our Favorite Activities at Johnson Farms:

Apple Picking: Remember to pre-order a bag for a Quarter Peck, Half Peck, or Bulk 10 lb. bag. You will pick up your bag for picking when you arrive. They have a variety of apples (we picked Fuji and Pink Ladies) and they are all beautiful and delicious!

Veggie Picking:  Preorder your veggie box as well. 1/2 Peck of Vegetables is 6lbs approx. 8 tomatoes or a meal worth of green beans, tomatoes, peppers, and beets. If you are a Power Picker choose the 15lb crate (it must remain modestly mounded).

The Pumpkin Chomping Dinosaur: (Demos on Weekends)

Jumping Pillows: They have two giant jumping pillows (one for big kids and one for little kids) - this is my girls' FAVORITE attraction in the play area!

Farm Animals: (Pig Races on weekends)

Farm Games: Skeeball, Duck Races, Basketball and other fun "Arcade Games" are under an awning past the pigs.

An Obstacle Course:

Fun Play Areas: Kids love the wooden playsets (note that the tunnels are not open this year), fire truck, Block Bus, tire tower, tractors, rock wall, and slides.

Pumpkin Donuts and Snacks at the Barnyard Grill:
