It's apple picking season!  Each of the u-pick Apple Farms on our list is a locally owned family operation designed to provide the best in healthy produce and a great family outing. So, grab the camera and the cooler and take the kids on a trip they won’t forget!

 

Apple Picking Season: Mid-August through October. Some farms do not open until Labor Day Weekend, be sure to call for hours.



Apple Picking Tips: 

Alldredge Orchards

    Tucked in the foothills of the Missouri River you’ll find the picturesque Alldredge Orchards. The century-old barn welcomes guests with beautiful hardy mums, fresh fruit, and autumn treats. Children enjoy riding pedal go-kart and feeding the chickens and ducks that roam the farm and welcome visitors.

Cider Hill Family Orchard

    U-Pick Apple Orchard and Event Barn owned by The Shearer Family. Open: Saturday 10:00-6:00 Sunday 12:00-6:00.

Fieldstone Orchard

  "We are using Beyond Organic practices and growing crops from organic seed including heirloom varieties as well. This year we begin a CSA! email us if you want to know more. We have winter greens (kale, chard, romaine, spinach, arugala). And many more crops throughout the year. Our fruit trees and berry bushes will be sprayed with a wonderful mixture of herbal infusions, neem oi, kelp, humic and fulvic, EM and more to help build the soil food web and feed and strengthen the trees and bushes from bugs and fungus and the like as well as making nutrient dense foods." Schweizer Orchards

    Nestled in the bluffs overlooking the Mighty Mo is one of the largest u-pick apple orchards in the area. Schweitzer Orchards are so popular that visitors come not only from Missouri and Kansas, but also from Texas, Iowa, Nebraska, and the Dakotas on annual trips for apple picking! The orchard features Early Jonathan, Jonathan, Jonagold, Gala, Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Fuji, HoneyCrisp and Winesap Apples. Opened for picking mid-August and will continue to have apples for picking through mid-October.

Wagon Wheel Orchard

    The Wagon Wheel Orchard is one of the newer u-pick farms in the area, but they already boast 133 varieties of apples! The Wagon Wheel is open to visitors for picking on weekends, but be sure you call ahead for the picking report!

2014 Report from Wagon Wheel Orchard: Taking appointments for the 24th for some apple (definitely) and pear (possibly - mother nature will decide) picking. This year we have some amazing no spray fruit - the best ever!!! We do have some late summer apples (sauce apples) and some great mid-season all purpose apples.

    Details: 14730 Hwy 68, 913.837.5202. Cider Mill Hours: Mon-Sat 8am-6pm, Sunday 9am-6am. At the mill, watch Cider Making and Apple Cider Donut Making. Lost Trail Root Beer and Soda is manufactured there as well. Cider, donuts, pumpkins, Lost Trail Sodas, specialty foods, and fall treats are available for purchase in the Gift Shop. Visit the Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze with a Fishing Hole, Farm Animals, Play Area, Picnic Area, Straw Castle, and Hay Rides.

     The entire family will love this outing. The kids are fascinated by the Cider Making and machinery; until they discover something even better...the donuts! The Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze are great fun.
