Review: Disney on Ice "Dream Big"

by

Disney has done it again. From pixie dust to pyrotechnics the newest Disney on Ice show, Dream Big, delivers a magical experience sure to please everyone in your crew from boys and girls, young and old alike. Enjoy the show at the Sprint Center thru Sept. 17.

Mickey and Minnie emcee this ice skating extravaganza from start to finish while everyone’s favorite fairy, Tinkerbell, waves her magic wand to usher in new stories. Guests can expect to see a slew of their favorite characters from a multitude of iconic Disney classics from Aladdin to Snow White, The Little Mermaid to Beauty and the Beast, The Princess & the Frog, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and more (not to mention the whole zany crew from the smash hit, Frozen!). All of these stories unfold through breathtaking costuming, engenius props, creative backdrops, and an all-star cast of figure skaters. While the characters and adventures may differ, one common theme abounds: if you believe hard enough, anything is possible.

Disney on Ice not only delivers a high quality show guests have come to expect from Disney but also engages the audience through a completely immersive experience. Attendees can’t help but sing along to their favorite tunes. Bubbles fly overhead as a menagerie of Ariel’s finned friends throw an epic party under the sea. Fans cheer Prince Phillip on as he goes on an epic quest to slay a glow-in-the-dark fire-breathing dragon. And a raging snow storm takes everyone by surprise when Elsa and Ana hit the ice.

Having brought my crew of three boys, all under the age of ten, to opening night here are some pointers that we recommend.

Come early

It may seem obvious but give yourself a bit of extra margin. You’ll need it when walking from a nearby parking garage, standing in line at the box office, or hitting the restroom before the show. The added bonus? Guests that show up ten minutes early will get the special opportunity to see a couple skaters hit the ice for a short demonstration.

Dress Accordingly

It is called Disney on Ice for a reason. While temperature are moderately warm outside, the Sprint Center is a few degrees cooler than normal to keep the skating rink at optimum. Don’t dress for winter (after all, you’ll still be dealing with late summer weather outside) but consider bringing a sweater to wear throughout the show. Also, if you plan on bringing your own little princess, consider this event a gown-worthy ball. I was surrounded by a sea full of little Belles, Cinderellas, and Snow Whites and the cuteness factor was off the charts!
