June Editor's Letter

by

Welcome, June! You might be tired of my saying it, but summer is my favorite time of the year! I love almost everything about this season—from the unrushed, unscheduled no-school days to the warm temps to the longer days and plethora of events, there’s nothing quite like it! And to this list I get to add “having my daughter home from college” as one of my most favorite parts of the summer of ’22! We have plans for a vacation and are looking forward to several concerts, as well as attending local festivals and events. If you’re in need of some ideas for summer fun, then you have come to the right place! From a list of ideas that will keep you busy all summer long to fun crafts and sweet treats, our Summer Guide has you covered, starting on pg. 40. And, in case you still need a last-minute camp for your kids, check out the Summer Camp Guide.

In addition to summer, June also brings us Father’s Day! Like I, my Dad loved summer and warm temps, so I know I get my love for it honestly! One cherished childhood memory is of my dad making chocolate shakes for us on summer evenings. He called them “Pop’s Chocolate Malts” and joked he was going to open up a chocolate malt shop and sell only, you guessed it, chocolate malts. His theory was do one thing and do it well! For great ways to celebrate Dad on his special day, head here.

Thanks to everyone who entered the Parade of Hearts photo contest! We had tons of entries, and you’ll find the winning photos displayed here. Stay tuned to KCParent.com all summer long for great contests and giveaways.

Happy summer, Kansas City!
