Homemade Bean Bag Toss

The weather this winter has been a dream! I am super-duper grateful as I am sort of grouchy when the days are short and grey, and the house gets dusty and stuffy from no fresh air and the snow piles up forcing everyone indoors. I get cabin fever from snow storms and antsy with anticipation of storms which often don't materialize. So, I have been beyond grateful for every nice day we've had, taking advantage to air out the house, play outside and get lots of extra vitamin D.

But, I know we won't completely escape winter's wrath. So, the girls and I made a fun indoor game a few weeks ago to tide us over for when we can't get out. We even gave our game and outdoor, springtime, backyard feel to help remind us that sunny summer days are never too far away.

Flower Pot Beanbag Toss:

First, I used some fun green fabric scraps to sew square bean bags. I cut the fabric in 5" x 5" squares and stitched around, leaving a hole to turn inside out, and then Natalie filled with dry beans from the grocery store. Then, I topstitched the hole closed, and continued the top stitch all the way around. The bean bags turned out cute and were fun to throw around!

Then, we picked up terra cotta pots and added pinwheels we had at home. Natalie was able to write point values for each pot with chalk right onto the pot. We even found a peice of grass carpet at Home Depot and used it as a way to pretend we were tip-toeing through the grass on a warm day! To be honest, with the real grass still pretty green, this toy hasn't gotten too much use yet, but I am sure once the dreaded winter weather returns, we'll be having lots of fun with the bean bag toss!
