I Can’t Find the Time To . . .

Now that the school year is in full swing and we know the practice, scouts, and after-school schedule, I can honestly say, I do not have time to do anything. Literally, I can’t find the time. No, seriously, don’t ask me to do anything else or ask if I have time to do something. I don’t have the time. I really don’t.

I get up at 5:45 during the week and at work by 6:45. I use the time from 6:45 to 7:55 when classes start to grade papers and plan my lessons, because with three kids around, I don’t get anything done at home. I teach until 3:40 when the kids are dismissed, but I have to stay until 4:15 in case students need to see me. This is the calm part of my day. Yes, believe it or not, teaching high school students every day is the calm part of my day.

We have a faculty meeting every Monday after school until at least 5:00. I then start a mad scramble to pick up my daughter from day-care before they close at 6:00. Get my two boys, try and figure out something for dinner, with the help of my lovely wife of course. Then we have Cub Scout Pack meetings, Cub Scout leader meetings, and Chess Club for my youngest son.

On Tuesdays, I bolt out of school at 4:15, scramble to get all three kids pick-up, and then I have to get my youngest son to his Braille class at 5:00. My oldest son has soccer practice at 5:30, Braille ends at six and then my youngest son’s has soccer practice at 6:00. My oldest practices until 6:30 and the youngest practices until 7:00.

Wednesdays are just as complicated. We have Braille at 5:00 for my youngest son, reading tutor at 5:00 for my oldest son and then Cub Scout Den meetings at 6:30, and Chess Club for my oldest.

On Thursdays I actually leave school at 2:30, pick my youngest son at 2:50 so we can get to Braille by 3:00. I have a variety of Thursday meetings which help suck up my time.

The only thing we have on Fridays are piano lessons, which are right after school.

On Saturdays we have at least two soccer games and on Sunday we have at least two flag-football games.

I can’t find the time for anything right now so please don’t ask me for anything until May. Oh yeah, don’t we have to find time for dinner, homework, reading, playing, raking leaves, doing laundry, grocery shopping, and everything else we have to do as a family? Sorry, I just don’t have the time.
