I've Got Home Project Fever

It started innocently enough.  I simply rearranged a few things in my family room to see what a table would like in a different spot.  I liked it.  That was all it took.  Now, I’m visiting thrift stores and picturing what my family room and kitchen will look like when I’ve repainted.  I even primed my brick fireplace today.  Of course, that just made me want to paint the 80s wood trim and the kitchen cabinets, and…Are you sensing a pattern here?  It’s a vicious cycle.

The same thing happened about this time last year.  I took off cabinet doors to expose some of my white dishes.  I also repainted the walls and cabinets in one of our bathrooms.  Of course, it’s no coincidence that this time of year is when I get the itch to work on home projects.  After all, it’s when the kids go back to school.

This year, two of my three children are at school all day.  After having three children ages 6, 5, and 3, home for the summer, having just one home seems quiet.  It turned out that painting primer on my brick fireplace was exactly what this mama needed to distract herself from the too quiet house.  (Okay, okay, I actually loved the quiet today, but I didn’t like reflecting on how they’re growing up too quickly!)  It helped that I had a 3 year old nearby pretending that she was my mom who was ordering me to paint the fireplace.  I have a feeling she was channeling the wicked stepmother from Cinderella.

So, what are you up to now that the kids are back in school?  Is it more exciting than painting a fireplace?
