Proper skincare is important for all women, especially as we approach the summer months in KC. For starters, a healthy diet and adequate amount of sleep are important. When it comes to choosing the right foods, look for sources of vitamins A, C and D. Vitamin A helps with elasticity of the skin and repairs skin cells and can be found in carrots and beets. Vitamin C prevents premature aging and promotes collagen production. Citrus fruits and some vegetables are good sources of this nutrient. Vitamin D is found in eggs, fish oil and butter and aids in skin healing and bone health. When you’re spending time in the sun, use sunscreen with a high SPF and always drink 8-10 glasses of water daily to keep skin hydrated. Drinking a lot of tea, coffee and caffeinated beverages can result in greasy skin. Drinking alcohol excessively and smoking can also result in damaged skin.
