Valentine’s Weekend to feature Multi-Piano Concerts: “Musikopoly”

Lawrence, KS - On February 13th, the Kansas City Music Teachers Association will present their 17th annual Multi-Piano Concerts: “Musikopoly.” Performers will present to different concerts, at 2 pm and 4 pm at the Lied Center of Kansas. The more than 450 participants will perform in duet teams simultaneously on 18 grand pianos. Pam Williamson, Choral Music Director at Olathe Northwest High School, will conduct the ensemble. Tickets are general admission and can be purchased at the door for $5.

This year’s program, “Musikopoly” features a sampling of diverse genres of music that have been a part of American pop culture, with a special emphasis on music from the 20s, 30s, 40s and beyond. The program will include jazz, swing, folk, rock, classics, Latin, pop and more!

The Multi-Piano Concert event began in late 1993 with only 293 performers. It has grown to one of the largest events of its kind in the country. It now has approximately 450 students from over 45 independent, professional piano studios in the Kansas City metropolitan area.

The Kansas City Music Teachers Association is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization of professional music educators from the entire Kansas City area that continually strives to provide extraordinary opportunities for people of all ages: hobbyists, professionals and listeners. KCMTA advances the value of music study and music-making for our diverse community while supporting the professionalism of music teachers. Organized in 1915, the organization now includes 180 members.
