It's time to plan for Spring Break and that means many terrific family fun outings, great classes for Kansas City Kids, and Special Spring Break Programs. This is our 2019 guide to Spring Break in KC:

This guide features two sections: Spring Break Camps and Fun Outings for Families During Spring Break.

Spring Break Camps in the Kansas City Area

Spring Break Camps fill up fast! Make your reservations today! Camps require pre-registration as slots fill quickly. Some programs offer discounts for residents (through local parks & rec departments) or memberships with attractions.

Code Ninjas Day Camps at Leawood & Lenexa locations (Dates include Feb. 15, Feb. 15-18,  Mar. 8, and Mar. 11-15). One-day and Multi-day camps with fun activities including coding, game-building, robotics, and creative thinking. Kids love technology, games, and having fun with friends. Parents want to give their kids the best and brightest future possible. Everyone wins at Code Ninjas. Kids learn to code through our engaging game-based curriculum that teaches teamwork, logic, math, and problem-solving. They gain vital skills while having a blast.

Kansas City Zoo Spring Break Camp March 11 -13 and March 20-22 for children ages 5-12 at Kansas City Zoo, 6800 Zoo Dr., Kansas City, MO. What does boomer balls, barrels, spices and fish-sicles have in common? They make life interesting. Just like us, animals need thinks to keep their minds and bodies healthy. Check out the world of animal enrichment! Kids love programs at the Kansas City Zoo.

Break Free Spring Break Camp Mar. 11-13 from 9am-1pm at Break Free Kansas City Hip Hop School. A fresh, new Spring Break experience that's unlike anything else! Campers will experience new creative forms of artistic self-expression by getting active with three key elements of Hip Hop: Breakin, DJing, and Graffiti Writing. Having fun and building unity with one another while gaining knowledge about Hip Hop’s positive cultural history. All are welcome--ages 6 and up. Wear comfortable shoes, bring a snack, and a water bottle. Campers should also have lunch to eat from 1230-100. Parents are welcome to join us for lunch also!

Kids Day Out at Johnson County Museum March 11-15, 7:30am-6pm daily at Johnson County Museum (8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS) for ages 5-12. Come have fun when school is out! Explore history through crafts and projects, visit KidScape and the museum exhibits, play games, and enjoy downtime. We provide one snack, bring a lunch and water bottle and dress for the weather -will go outside if possible. Open from 7:30-6, but you may drop off and pick up at any time. Mesner Puppet Camps Stop Motion Lego Movie Spring Break Camp:  March 11-15 or March 18-22, 9am-4: 30 pm, Grades 1-6, $240, Maximum 15 kids. Come create a stop motion Lego movie with Mesner Puppet Theater! We will spend the week learning about stop motion techniques, storytelling basics, and puppetry fundamentals.

KCYA  Spring Break Camp March 11-15, KCYA Camps begin at 8:30 am daily Monday - Friday. Campers here for the whole day need to bring their own sack lunch. Each camp concludes with a sharing for family and friends. Scholarships are available to assist with class fees. Extended Daycare is available until 5:30 pm each day. 2019 Themes include Ocean Imaginarium, Full STEAM Ahead, Musical Theatre: Anything Goes, and Build A Toy: Anchors Away.

Spring Break Camp at Ernie Miller Nature Center Mar. 11-15 at Ernie Miller Nature Center, 909 N. K-7 Highway, Olathe, KS. Ernie Miller offers public programs at camps. Everyone may participate in Spring Fling Fun daily during the break for $3/ea (paid at the site). Visitors are welcome to view the aquarium and hike the trails all week. Park staff will entertain guests with a special program each day at 10 am. Every program will feature live animals and a new daily theme. For more information call (913) 826-2800.

YMCA Steam Innovation Program March 18-21 from 9am-4pm daily at Linwood YMCA/James B. Nutter, Sr. Community Center 3800 E Linwood Boulevard, Kansas City, MO.  Children ages 9-14 will experience robotics, art activities, recreation, technology, field trips and more. The program runs 9 a.m.-4 p.m. daily.

Youth Day Camps: Olathe March 11-15, Olathe Parks & Rec offers a variety of camps including Fun in the Sun, Mad Science, Baseball Camp, Basketball Camp, Robotics, Volleyball and more.

Lenexa Parks & Rec Spring Break Camps Mar. 11-15 for Ages 5-12. Activities will be geared around the great outdoors, including an outdoor scavenger hunt, a camping day, outdoor games, creative art projects and an outing to Deanna Rose and pool time.

Spring Break Drama Camp March 11-15 at Theatre of the Imagination OP campus, 6100 W. 127th st, Overland Park, KS. Kids learn acting, singing & dancing as well as moviemaking, with a big show at the end of the week. $180/week (10am-4:30pm). $215/week: All day (+ before/after 7:30am-6pm). JCPRD Spring Break Camps March 11-15. Call the JCPRD Registration Department at 913-831-3359 to register. JCPRD offers a variety of Spring Break camps exploring themes like soccer, Engineering FUNdamentals using LEGO®, basketball, volleyball, science and nature, arts and crafts and more!

Powell Gardens Fort-Building Spring Break Camp March 18-22, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. daily at Powell Gardens. Imaginations will run wild at this day camp providing opportunities for your first or second grader to design and construct play homes, forts, and hideouts during spring break! Each day features a theme focused on the lives of birds, terrestrial insects, mammals, aquatic insects, or humans in the gardens, on the Byron Shutz Nature Trail, and in some areas that visitors rarely get to explore. Children will investigate Powell Gardens’ resident builders including mammals, birds, insects, and amphibians, and construct play homes for the gardens’ inhabitants indoors and out.

Spring Break Camp: Grandview  Mar. 18-22, The View. Enjoy a week of games, arts & crafts, a field trip, and more! The Spring Break Camp runs from Monday, March 18th through Friday, March 22nd from 7:30am-5: 30 pm. Kids ages 6-12 can enjoy fun, structured activities at The View. Register by March 11th!

Fun Outings During Spring Break

Open Jump at Urban Air (Urban Air 14401 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS). Jump, Climb, and Swing into Spring Break at Urban Air, the ultimate indoor playground for your entire family! Face off against friends with a dash through the Warrior Obstacle Course or Tubes Playground, then get your inner Lebron on in the Slam Dunk Zone.  Fly sky high and bounce off the walls on our APEX trampolines and gather the troops for an epic dodgeball pic battle! Family and friends gather here where no age limits mean fun for all!

Family Tree Nursery is offering several great events during Spring Break:

Main Event (Multiple Locations: Main Event Independence, Main Event Olathe, Main Event Northland,  ) is the perfect place to experience a fun outing. Save with our Main Event Coupons! Visit Crown Center. Start with a Journey to Oz: A FREE Exhibit thru May 12, 2019: One of the world’s beloved movies turns 80 this year, and Crown Center is celebrating by bringing the magic of the big screen to you!  Families can tour the enchanting world of the Munchkins, follow Dorothy, the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion, sneak into the Wicked Witch’s castle and much more. Open Monday – Friday, 10am to 6pm; Saturday, 10am – 7pm; Sunday, 11am to 6pm.  Then, be sure to visit Kaleidoscope, where creativity and imagination play. In Kaleidoscope's (2500 Grand) magical hands-on world, kids create masterpieces with super cool, super fun supplies in a super amazing atmosphere, where admission is FREE thanks to Hallmark. Check their calendar and enjoy a free family session (HallmarkKaleidoscope.com). Then, stop for lunch. Kids pick Fritz’s (Level I, Crown Center Shops) as the most fun place to eat in town. Trains deliver burgers and fries tableside. For a tasty, more grown-up choice, try Unforked, where the tacos and burgers are made fresh with local ingredients.  Or, plan to see Coterie's production Mr. Popper's Penguins showing Feb. 26 - Mar. 31: In this charming musical adaptation of the beloved book, Mr. and Mrs. Popper’s lives take an adventurous turn when a mysterious box arrives on their doorstep with a penguin inside. Not long after, the local aquarium sends over a female penguin and soon the Poppers are hearing the patter of 20 little feet. What starts for Mr. Popper as a giant bill for canned shrimp leads to an imaginative journey across America – one that ends in the Antarctic to place the penguin colony in a “life they were meant to lead.”

Legoland Discovery Center (2475 Grand), where you’ll begin your journey on a ride into the unknown on laser chariots. Play with the world’s biggest box of Legos, watch a film in the Lego Studios 4D Cinema and explore a miniature Kansas City in Lego Miniland. Enjoy THE LEGO® MOVIE DAYS thru March 31. Sea Life Kansas City (2475 Grand) is a favorite local attraction where your family can be transported into an amazing underwater world with up-close views of more than 5,000 sea creatures! Come nose to nose with sharks in the walk-through underwater tunnel, experience the touch pool where you can hold a crab or touch a starfish, participate in educational demonstrations, watch animal feedings and explore this state-of-the-art home for many of the ocean’s most majestic creatures! During Spring Break, enjoy the NEW SEA TURTLE RESCUE CENTER (opening Feb. 22): Get face to flipper with rescued green sea turtles in our new turtle center located inside of SEA LIFE Kansas City. The new Sea Turtle Rescue Center will serve as a home to rehabilitated sea turtles that are no longer able to survive in the wild due to injury or other ailments. A new, permanent addition to Kansas City’s aquarium, the center invites visitors of all ages to get up-close to rescued sea turtles while learning about the threats they face in the wild. Union Station 30 W. Pershing, Kansas City, MO. Enjoy many attractions including Science City's Huge New Exhibit, THE AMAZING BRAIN (opens March 7), the Arvin Gottlieb 4K Planetarium, and the Regnier Extreme Screen Theatre offering both educational and entertaining films. Kids of all ages will experience the amazing world of science first-hand through fun and engaging exhibits and programs. Their current feature exhibit (in its final days - open thru March 24) is Dinosaurs Revealed: Journey Across America. Come face-to-face with 26 life-size dinosaurs. See them move, hear them roar. Examine two massive full body skeletons and dozens of real fossils. Get hands-on digging for new evidence. Walk through the most prolific North American dinosaur dig sites. Visit the Paleontologist Hangout and meet real dinosaur hunters. Interact with a 3D augmented reality volcano, dinosaur tracks, puzzles and more. It’s an adventure that promises to educate, fascinate and excite imaginations of every age.

iFly (10975 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS) is the ultimate Spring Break Adventure. Visit the indoor skydiving park where you can experience the magic of flight. Spring Break Living History at Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop, March 14-16 from 10am-4pm daily. Take a stagecoach ride, visit the Mahaffie house, see what is cooking on the cookstove, play 1860s games, and listen to the blacksmith hammer iron. Horse-powered plowing and planting demonstrations, depending on weather and ground conditions. All activities included with regular site admission: $7/adults, $5/children ages 5-11, Olathe residents receive $2/off admission.

Paradise Park (1021 NE Colbern Rd, Lee's Summit, MO) is a favorite family fun center where there truly is something for everyone. From the Children's Discovery Center with indoor play for little ones to the arcades, go-karts, and rock wall and more for teens and adults - this is the place for families to play.

Felted Forms thru Mar. 31 at Overland Park Arboretum (8909 W 179th St, Bucyrus, KS). Take a stroll along the path and discover these felted forms for yourself. Felt making is a very ancient craft that dates back to the beginnings of civilization. Wool fibers are felted using moisture, friction and heat. As the wool shrinks, the fibers interlock and mat together. Our goals are to take this simple, natural process and produce art forms of all types as well as introduce this amazing material to a wider audience through exhibitions in galleries and alternative spaces. Growing out of a study group from members of the Kansas City Weavers Guild, The Feltmakers Federation of Kansas City has grown to include a range of people interested in developing art forms using this oldest of textiles. No pre-registration necessary, included with admission.

Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is one of our favorite FREE attractions. This world-class museum offers free admission (and affordable parking) and is accessible and friendly to guests of all ages. On the third Friday of each month, the museum hosts Junior Jaunts. Bring your baby in a stroller or front carrier for an adult-focused, yet infant friendly, mini-museum tour. Enjoy a discussion of a few favorite art galleries.

Ceramic Cafe (9510 Nall Ave, Overland Park, KS). Ceramic Cafe is a paint-your-own-pottery and glass fusing studio serving the Kansas City area. All ages are welcome. Paint your pottery piece or create a beautiful work of glass in the vibrant Leawood, Kansas, studio. The process to paint, glaze and fire your masterpiece takes about a week. Paint, Glaze & Fire (12683 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS). Paint, Glaze & Fire is a great place to spend quality time and make memories with your friends, family, or just about anyone! Paint your own ceramics or try your hand at glass fusing at this creative studio. In addition to regular hours, they’ll be open Monday, March 11 from 10 AM - 5 PM and studio fees will be 1/2 price March 8 - March 17 . Tip: 1/2 price studio fees throughout spring break.

Open Play at Jump City (8020 E 171st St, Belton, MO). At Jump City, your kids will have a blast with a variety of games and activities. Jump City features giant themed inflatable slides, obstacle courses, bounce houses, interactive games, a toddler play area, and much more. So whether the weather’s too harsh to head outdoors, or you’re looking for an awesome indoor party destination, visit Jump City to enjoy all the joys of being outside in one fun-filled location.

Spring Break Programming at Mid-Continent Public Libraries Area branches hosts special events including science classes, craft workshops, puppet shows, story times, concerts, magic shows, and demonstrations. Check out their calendar of events for programming near you!

Pinspire LLC (12 1/2 SW Third St., Lee’s Summit) offers a variety of creative classes for all ages. They provide workspace, inspiration, and supplies. You can participate in one of their workshops or reserve studio time at PinspireStudio.com.

Spring Break Marble Lessons at The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures 5235 Oak St., Kansas City, MO. This spring break, discover the game of marbles with your entire family. “Knuckle down” in a marble ring, shoot real marbles, and learn fun facts and marble lingo. Once you’ve become a “mibster,” aka a marble player, sign up for the Kansas City Marble Tournament on March 30. The ten-minute marble lessons will occur daily at 10:30 am and 1:30 pm from March 11-24, and the marble rings will be open for practice from 10:45-noon and 1:45-3pm. The museum is closed on Tuesdays. Included with museum admission. Free for members.

Blade & Timber (Blade & Timber 5203 W. 117th St., Leawood, KS, and Blade & Timber 1101 Mulberry St, Kansas City, MO) is the perfect place for some friendly competition and adventure. You can reserve a lane or play with strangers, throwing axes at a wooden target. This is great fun for couples or groups (participants must be 10 years old or older). Open Jump at Sky Zone (Sky Zone Shawnee, KS and Sky Zone Lee's Summit, MO locations). Enjoy a bit of exercise and fun at this indoor trampoline park with a Ninja Warrior Course, bouldering wall for climbing, foam zone, dodgeball, and a new warped wall.
