Special Events, Parades & Festivals to Celebrate the 4th of July in Kansas City:

Flags For Freedom June 30-July 7, Merriam Marketplace (5740 Merriam Dr.). Celebrate America at this patriotic display of over 3,000 American Flags. Throughout the event, there will be special Concerts, Ceremonies, and Festivities throughout the event honoring the American Armed Services including free concerts every Friday night at 6:30pm. Independence Day at Lanesfield June 29, 30 & July 6,7 from 1-5 p.m. Lanesfield School Historic Site (18745 S. Dillie Rd. Edgerton KS). FREE drop in program! KC Riverfest July 4 from 1pm-11pm, Berkley Riverfront Park on the Missouri River. Since 2005, KCRiverFest has been recognized as Kansas City’s premier Independence Day Festival on the Missouri River. 19th Century Fireworks June 28, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm (1200 Kansas City Road, Olathe, KS). Enjoy a concert by the Olathe Civic Band at 7:30 p.m. followed by 19th century fireworks by the Olathe Fire Department at dark.  Show your American pride and bring your decorated bike/stroller/wagon.  Watch the 19th Century baseball game at 6:30 p.m.  Bring your lawn chairs, blanket and picnic dinner to enjoy this patriotic celebration. June 30:

Booms & Blooms at Powell Gardens June 30, Powell Gardens. It's peak time to enjoy the collection of more than 400 varieties of daylilies in the Perennial Garden. Look for your favorites at McConnell’s Plantland daylily sale in front of the Visitor Education Center throughout the festival. Come early for a splash through the Fountain Garden and a tour of the Fairy Houses & Forts Exhibition. Also enjoy Paint-A-Pot and face painting starting at 2 p.m. (extra fee applies). The music begins at 4:30 with jazz favorites on the lawn near the Fountain Garden. At 7:30 p.m. the Lee’s Summit Symphony Orchestra takes the stage for a pops concert that includes patriotic favorites. Enjoy a sizzling fireworks display that really shines against the dark country sky! Kearney, MO: July 1 at 5pm, Kearney Amphitheatre. The United States Air Force Band of Mid-America Shades of Blue Jazz Ensemble is an 18-piece big band with a diverse repertoire of traditional swing, bebop, modern jazz, vocal selections, and the music of this great nation. During concerts, you may hear innovative, contemporary jazz works as well as the classic sounds of Count Basie or Glenn Miller. Legacy Blast Fireworks: Lee's Summit July 3, Legacy Park (NE Legacy Park Drive in Lee’s Summit, MO). Kearney, MO: July 3, Kearney Amphitheatre. As we celebrate our nation's freedom this year during the Lion's Club Fireworks Celebration on July 3rd, you are invited to help others by donating to the Kearney Food Bank. As you enter Jesse James Park look for Kearney Food Bank volunteers in official blue t-shirts. Cash (or check) donations are requested. All donations will be used to purchase items to be distributed through the Kearney Food Bank - a non-profit cooperative effort of the Kearney Ministerial Alliance, the Kearney Enrichment Council, and the City of Kearney. July 4:

Jackson County Appreciation July 4 (Gates open at 6pm), Longview Lake Beach. Jackson County residents made bringing Major League Baseball’s 2012 All-Star Game to Kansas City possible through supporting renovations to Kauffman Stadium. This Appreciation Celebration is all about saying, “THANK YOU!”  Celebrate America’s Independence Day with appearances from Kansas City Royal alums. Discover where Jazz meets the Blues with a live performance of The David Basse Orchestra. Join us in saluting our veterans from Jackson County, and applaud the winners of the special Jackson County All-Stars Tournament. The July 4th fireworks display and activities will take place at Celebration Park.  Families will be able to enjoy the large playground, picnic shelters and trails while they wait for the big show!  Additionally there will be a DJ playing your favorite songs along with inflatables for the children to enjoy.  The Color Guard will be present as well as the local orchestra to join in on the ceremonies.
