Camps for Kids

by

Every child should have the opportunity to attend camp. At camp kids can make new friends, discover new things and most importantly, just be a kid! Camps For Kids works to assure that no Kansas City area youngster is denied the benefits of summer camp.

Camps For Kids is a Kansas City based non-profit organization dedicated to helping disabled and disadvantaged youth in our community experience the wonders and the very real benefits of summer camp. Founded by Marjorie Powell Allen and other community leaders, Camps For Kids stepped in to help when the federal government withdrew assistance for youth summer programming in 1980.

Over the past three decades, they have given financial support to more than 40,000 campers who otherwise would have been unable to benefit from this valuable experience. Most recently in 2005 Camps for Kids helped send 2000 kids to 15 camps with the $86,000 they raised. In 2007, 4,600 Kansas City area children benefited from the $300,000 they were able to raise.

The Camps for Kids camping network includes 32 camps specializing in serving this very deserving population. They generate life-affirming results for area campers. New skills, sound decision-making, lasting values … that’s Camps For Kids.
