Father's Day at the Zoo

June 19 at Kansas City Zoo, 6800 Zoo Drive, Kansas City. Fathers get in free. Celebrate Dad with a relaxing day at the Zoo. Papa bears will receive complimentary admission on Sunday, June 19 in celebration of Father’Day. The treats don’t stop there, Dads will also receive a free hot dog in the Tropics Tent thanks to our friends at Apple Market. Free Admission for Fathers! Truman Library

June 19 at Harry S. Truman Library and Museum, 500 W. US Hwy. 24, Independence. In honor of Father’s Day, museum admission for fathers is free. Mr. Truman, as portrayed by re-enactor Niel Johnson, will be on hand from 1:30 to 3:30 pm to greet visitors.

Father's Day at Worlds of Fun

June 19 at Worlds of Fun. Worlds of Fun wants to celebrate DAD on Father’s Day at Oceans of Fun during the annual Belly Flop Contest! Dads are invited to show off their most splash-tacular form as they compete for bragging rights as the BEST Belly-Flopper. Contest begins at 2:30 pm at the Surf City Wave Pool. The performance takes place in Powell Gardens' open-air Missouri Barn. And don't miss the Gardens' summer exhibit, Jurassic Garden: A Prehistoric Adventure. You will see incredibly accurate dinosaur replicas, created by Missouri's own Guy Darrough.

Ride the Belton, Grandview & Kansas City Railroad

The Belton, Grandview and Kansas City Railroad Co. is a short line passenger railroad and demonstration museum in Belton, Missouri, just south on US Hwy. 71 from the Kansas City Metro Area. The BG&KC offers excursions on our line running south from Belton on a 5 mile, 45 minute round trip. We are an all volunteer, nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving rail travel and railroading. June: Fri. Ice Cream rides at 7pm, and traditional rides Sat at 11am and 2pm & Sun at 2pm

Its The Sharks vs. The Jets in a comedy sporting event, and everything is based on suggestions from YOU! The show starts with an introduction by the Ref, complete with rules, penalties and fouls and a few jokes thrown in for good measure. The teams then hit the playing field ready to earn your laughs and win your loyalty as they perform improvised scenes based on suggestion given by YOU, the audience! You'll be asked for suggestions. You'll be asked to decide your favorite team. You may even get asked to jump up on stage!

Powell Observatory Public Stargazing

Powell Observatory, 26500 Melrose St. , Louisburg. Powell Observatory is owned and operated by the Astronomical Society of Kansas City (ASKC), a 501(C)(3) educational organization. Built in 1984 by society members, it is located about 25 miles south of Kansas City in LewisYoung Park, just north of Louisburg, Kan. At this location skies are much darker than in the city. The observatory has one of the largest telescopes open to the public in a five-state area - the Ruisinger Telescope, a Newtonian with a 30" diameter mirror. In addition, the observatory has other telescopes available for public viewing. Public programs are given every Saturday night, May through October. Programs include an educational talk on astronomy, a tour of the night sky and viewing through the telescopes, weather permitting. No white lights (headlights, flashlights, mobile phones, etc.) are allowed at the observatory. Reservations not required for public nights. Call (913) 438-3825 to reserve the observatory for private events. Jun. 18 at 7:30 pm program -Infrared Astronomy: Light You Cannot See.

KC Northern Railroad Train Rides

KC Northern Railroad, 6060 NW Waukomis Drive, Kansas City. Fun for the entire family. Fare is .75 cents per ride.Saturdays 10am-6pm, Sundays 12-6pm.    

Amazing Dinosaurs at the Flint Hills Discovery Center

June 17 & 18 Corporate Woods, Overland Park. SoJo Summerfest is a two-day showcase of local culture and the arts highlighting the best the Kansas City area has to offer in live music, food and entertainment.

 

Roadkill Nights Powered by DODGE 

June 18 at Kansas Speedway, 400 Speedway Blvd, Kansas City. Kansas City will host the Sunflower State’s first hot rod and drag racing event straight from Pit Road at the Kansas Speedway. The car festival will be an event like you’ve never seen before, featuring: Open-run drag racing with cash prizes provided by TEN and a manufacturers’ midway, Dodge Thrill Rides, which give participants the opportunity to ride along in new Hellcats and Vipers, Show ’n’ Shine area, Live music, Food trucks, Premium giveaways, and Special surprises revealed at the event.

Lee's Summit Airport Open House

June 18 at Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport, 2751 NE Douglas St, Lee's Summit. The Lee's Summit Municipal Airport invites the community to celebrate more than 38 years of City ownership and operation at its Airport Open House. This free family-friendly event includes a variety of activities: Aircraft displays; Children's entertainment including face painter and bounce house; Aviation-related vendor booths; Free Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Young Eagles flights. All-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 7:30 to 11 a.m., hosted by EAA (fee for breakfast)
