Summer Love

You don't have to look further than the temperature outside to know that summer is HERE!! The upper 90's with even higher heat index is already leaving its mark on Kansas City. I've already heard some grumbles about the weather being "too hot", and the same people were grumbling about it being too cool just weeks ago. Well, the heat is here, and what are you going to do about it?

There are so many things that I love about the summer. Sure, the 90 degree heat can get to me after a while, but summer brings with it much promise, sounds, and activities that are only enjoyed during this season.

Just this past weekend I purchased some new kitchen towels from Macy's. Ice cream cone tea towels really make me happy! Replacing my boring, dull white ones with festive ice cream cone towels has made me happier when I'm washing and drying the dishes in my kitchen. And it's a wonderful reminder that this is a cheerful, colorful time of the year.

Spray parks, pools, water tables in the driveway, slip n slides, sprinklers, and water parks are just a handful of fun activities that I enjoy during summer with my kids. Ice cream cones outside, night tag, parties on the deck with neighbors and friends, hamburgers on the grill and catching fireflies at night are little joys that are sure to bring great memories to anyone. And now that the kids are out of school, the neighborhood feels a little more full, it's a bit noisier even into the evening, and I'm perfectly happy with that as well. Kids have a way of reminding us that we are a part of a community.

Another great way to find community during summer time is at Friday Night Flicks and evening concerts. Free movies and "music on the lawn" are all around Kansas City during the summer, so grab a blanket and some friends and head out to one of these inexpensive events. And if the movies are too late for those of you with little ones, there are a variety of festivals and fairs to choose from.

With so much to do, there is no excuse not to have fun in Kansas City during the summer. What are some of your favorite things to do during the summer? Share it with the rest of us so we can get new ideas of places to visit and venues to enjoy!
