Summer Outings

My oldest child starts school in August (sniff, sniff).  Thinking about this makes me realize how intentional I want to be with my time with my young children.  (I'm trying to enjoy every moment, though I admit that the recent transition of my youngest to a "big girl" bed has been a bit of a challenge.  I'm just not a fan of 4 a.m. wake up visits!)

There are exactly seven weeks left until my daughter starts full day Kindergarten.  (BIG sniff, sniff!)  In addition to the play dates, library visits and trips to the pool, I thought it would be fun to plan one special outing each week.  Since we live in an area full of many free or inexpensive options for family fun, I think this goal should be quite easy to reach.

First on our list is the Overland Park Arboretum.  My children have never been to the arboretum so it's an easy choice.  We haven't been to Deanna Rose yet this summer so that's another easy choice for an outing.  Also, since my children are Clifford fans, we'll likely head to Crown Center to enjoy the Clifford exhibit.  Hopefully we can make a visit to Kaleidoscope after seeing the big red dog.  Other than that, I'm hoping to take my daughter on a special date with a friend and her daughter.  We're going to visit the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.  That's four special outings, so that means I still have three more to plan and I need your help!

What are your family favorites?  How do you like to make summers special?  Please leave a comment and let me know about your special Kansas City summer outings.  Enjoy the rest of summer!
