5 Great KC Candy Stores

by

Whether you’re looking for the perfect after dinner treat or a gift that’s sure to tingle the taste buds, we’ve rated our top local candy stores to make you sweet on Kansas City.

André’s Confiserie Suisse

The best chocolate comes straight out of the Swiss Alps, and André’s is as close as you’ll get in the Midwest. The store was founded in 1955 by André and Ellsbeth Bollier, who immigrated here from Switzerland to mix up chocolate treats with pure butter, whipped cream and the highest quality chocolate. More than 50 years later, the Bollier family still runs the business and has added a second store as well as a tea room, serving gourmet lunches, pastries and, of course, chocolate. Indulge yourself in creamy truffles, deluxe tortes and specialty gifts such as chocolates carved with Kansas City landmarks.

Chip’s Chocolate Factory

This sweet stop is a candy store and a show all in one. Chip’s still uses the same marble tables and copper kettles as it did when it opened in 1983. Schedule a tour and you can watch the house confectioner make fudge, from cocoa bean to finished project, or simply catch a glimpse of the action while you shop.

Chip’s has patented “Kansas City Fudge.” Flavors spanning from cookies and cream to amaretto to the Kansas City Special (vanilla fudge swirled with chocolate fudge and fresh pecans) will make your mouth water if the sweet smell doesn’t get to you first.

Christopher Elbow

Christopher Elbow is a gallery of chocolate. The namesake chocolate maker focuses not just on taste in his confections, but appearance: each candy is a tiny work of art. With years of cooking experience in five-star restaurants such as Delmonico Steakhouse at Las Vegas’s Venetian and the Eiffel Tower restaurant in Paris, the Liberty, MO, native brings his talent to chocolate customers back home in Kansas City.

Each chocolate is painted to make a beautiful snack or an even more exquisite gift. Christopher Elbow not only presents his chocolates differently but offers unique flavor sensations like Venezuelan Spice, Rosemary Caramel and Passion Fruit.

Laura Little’s Candies

Laura Little’s is a real neighborhood candy store and a landmark in the area since 1970. Satisfy your candy cravings with fresh, house made fudge, toffee and assorted chocolate. Laura’s dipped fruits are also delectable treats; chocolate-covered strawberries are coated all-around for maximum sweetness. Purchase a gift box or find something savory with one of Laura’s popcorn tins. You can even cool down with some hand-scooped ice cream.
