When my husband worked downtown he discovered several unique restaurants that he came to enjoy. As a teacher at the time I continued to enjoy my cafeteria lunches as best I could while I envied the opportunity to choose a new restaurant to enjoy every day. I was jealous of his daily mid-day culinary adventures! D'Bronx was one of his favorites and he missed it when he was no longer working at a downtown office. When D'Bronx opened a location in our neck of the woods he was thrilled and I looked forward to finding out what the fuss was all about. Loyal readers know that I'm a Chicago (suburb) native and that I love all things pizza. D'Bronx was put here for girls like me!

While they may not stack the meat as high as a New York City deli, your cardiologist will thank you and you'll still love the experience. Pizza slices as big as a dinner plate but so thin you can eat the whole slice without regret. Remember, when it comes to pizza ‘New York' is thin, ‘Chicago' means you eat it with a fork like a casserole and ‘St. Louis' means it thin and a little crispy.

My gang loved every bit of their dinner. Among us we ordered a meatball sandwich, ($5.95) a classic grilled reuben, ($6.95) an Italian sausage and peppers sandwich, ($5.95) and a slice of cheese pizza. ($2.85) We sampled a few sides ($1-2), shared a couple of desserts ($1.50-$3.25) and each had a soda. The bill? Just about $40!

My son read about their special order 30 inch party pizza and has already made a request for his March birthday. I can't wait to see the looks on their faces when the largest pizza they've ever seen is carried into the room! The folks at D'Bronx are also happy to cater or provide box lunches for any special events you may have to plan.

The next time my girlfriends ask me for a lunch suggestion, I'm going to resist the urge to suggest one of the giant salad restaurants we usually gravitate to and introduce them instead to the joys of a perfectly cooked potato latke served with apple sauce or sour cream! Care to join us?  LH
