The Thorn: Review

by

This week, The Thorn, often described as Cirque meets The Passion Play, is live in Kansas City at the Music Hall.

This touring production, celebrating 25 years, tells the story of Christ with live music, drama, aerial acts, movement arts, modern dance, and big visual effects. This professional performance is elaborate and detailed, often called a visual masterpiece.

Narrated by John, the disciple whom Jesus loved, the story is full of drama, love, passion, and humor. The audience is taken on a nearly cinematic (although on stage) journey through the Bible from creation to the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.

The Thorn is an epic passion drama that is well-written and well-produced. The parting of the Red Sea, the choreography with projected water during the baptism of Jesus, the drama of the crucifixion, and the reveal of the resurrection are all performed masterfully with incredibly high production values.

The use of music, choreography, aerial arts, martial arts, and pyrotechnics all blend so well to tell the story of the Bible in an intimate a way.

The story leaves the audience moved to reflect on the story of Christ powerfully. The Thorn is showing in Kansas City through April 4, 2024.  Learn more about the tour of The Thorn here.
