Travel the world without leaving Kansas City! First stop: the Kansas City Zoo! Every year, the zoo just gets better and better! With a world-class polar bear exhibit, all-new African Sky Safari that enables visitors to get a bird’s eye view of Africa and the fantastic indoor Tropics exhibit all having opened in recent years, it’s always exciting to discover what’s next. This year, the zoo is excited to announce a visit to Sumatra, with a new home for the tigers, nearly four times larger than the old exhibit and featuring climbing rocks, lush hillside and waterfalls. The natural setting provides an ideal home for the tigers and a more enjoyable and educational experience for families.

You can take the kids out to eat at a great ethnic restaurant (see our list of our favorite family-friendly ethnic restaurants in Kansas City), followed by a visit to one of Kansas City’s many ethnic museums. The Strawberry Hill Museum houses permanent exhibits for Croatia, the Ukraine, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Russia.  The Irish Museum and Cultural Center tells the story of Irish immigration to Kansas City with artifacts, photos and genealogical sources.
