Watkins Mill State Park

    Fleeing the hustle and bustle of the city is occasionally in order, and camping provides the escape that families may need to recharge. Watkins Mill State Park is a short drive from the city and provides plenty of playtime for those wanting to connect with nature. With a 100-acre lake, paved bike path, picnic spots and plenty of campsites on which to pitch a tent, the park offers families activities for just a night or a whole weekend. Next to the campground is Watkins Woolen Mill State Historic Site, which includes a home and woolen mill preserved to show visitors what life was like in the 1870s.

Weston Bend State Park

    If your family enjoys the great outdoors mixed with some of the amenities of a small town, camping at Weston Bend State Park might be the right fit for you. Located northwest of downtown Kansas City, the park features a campground, hiking and biking trails with a view of the Missouri River, a scenic overlook and more. Spend a few hours in Weston and you will fall for its small-town charm. Children love the Red Barn Farm and Green Dirt Farm, and downtown Weston has some fantastic, locally-owned shops. The Weston Historical Museum, Bonnell Museum and the Lewis and Clark exhibit inside the train depot give visitors a historical background of the town.
