Glorious Winter

Wow...this winter has been amazing in Kansas City!  We've had so many nice days and especially so many nice weekends.  We have definitely been taking full advantage of the warm temperatures by getting outside.  Just last week we spend an afternoon at the zoo and it was fantastic!  The kids played and ran around and we got to say hello to our animal friends that most years we don't see for a few months.  We've gone to parks, taken bike rides and walks, and spent countless hours in our backyard playing.  The Razor Rip Rider we gave our son for Christmas has been tested out over and over again...some years that thing would have been stuck in the basement until March.

We have all absolutely loved it.  But I'm plagued with guilt everytime there is a nice day and we have indoor plans.  Most winters if you get ONE 50 degree day each month you are lucky.  And you make sure that you plan something outside that day because you hate to waste it.  But this year we have had so many that there are days like today where it's going to be so nice outside, but I really wanted to take the kids to see Beauty & the Beast in 3D...what do I do?  Cancel the movie and spend the day outside?  Go to the movie and waste away a beautiful winter day?  This is the kind of inner struggle I have had over and over this winter.  :)

Don't get me wrong...this is a lovely problem to have.  I normally get so tired of being stuck inside during the winter and this year those winter "blahs" have yet to hit.  The kids are so much happier when they can get all of their energy out by running around outside.  So I will take this "problem" any year.  But it's just one more source of "Mama Guilt" when I don't make the most of it.

So today...I'm taking the kids to the movie late this morning so that we can have the rest of the afternoon to frolic in the January sun.  Perfect!  Problem solved.

How about you?  How have you been spending these glorious winter days?
