Having a Stockpile Comes in Handy

I have posted before about stockpiling and why it is really the BEST way to save a ton of money on non-perishable foods, cleaning, and toiletry items.  By stockpiling you use coupons and sales to grab a supply of an item when it is deeply discounted (or free) and that way you don't have to buy those items full price every time you need them.  By time you run out of something, it will probably be on sale again and you can pick up a few more to replenish your stockpile.

I have been using the stockpile method for a couple of years now and it has definitely saved our family a lot of money.  But one great thing about having a stockpile that I never realized before is the fact that when you don't have time to shop/coupon, it's there for you!  I have been so busy lately that I have completely given up on clipping coupons.  Yes, I know...it's crazy.  But I just couldn't make time for the clipping/sorting or for planning big shopping trips.  So I'm taking a breather.  I have been SO happy that I have a stockpile to fall back on.  Even though I haven't clipped a coupon in months, I am not forced to spend a ton of money on things because I have them all waiting for me in my basement.  In fact, I'm pretty sure that even if don't take advantage of a single toiletry deal for the next year, I will probably not have to buy anything other than the occasional odds and ends.  (Yeah, I went a little overboard last year buying shampoo and toothpaste).  It is a relief that even though I'm not focused on my couponing right now, I'm still benefitting from coupons because of my prior planning and deal hunting!

The stockpile would also come in handy for anyone who gets laid off or has a cash shortage for whatever reason...if you can't spend any money on groceries, it's there.  You may have to get creative to make meals from what is in your stockpile, but you can do it!  I also like that I don't have to worry about running to the grocery store before a big snowstorm...I know that even if we get snowed in, I've got plenty of food to last us in an emergency.

So if you are a couponer but you haven't started a stockpile, start now!!  Just pick up a few extra of any item you find a hot deal on (as long as it won't expire before you can use it) and save it for the next time you need that item.  Gradually add to your stash over the next few months and eventually you will end up with a nice little stockpile that is there whenever you need it...no matter what the reason!
