Each year, Reach Out and Read Kansas City provides over 72,000 new, culturally and developmentally appropriate books to more than 28,000 low income children, birth to age 5, during well-child visits at our partner clinic sites, building a 13-book library for each child before he or she enters kindergarten. Reach Out and Read Kansas City is a nonprofit program in partnership with the Kansas University Endowment at the University of Kansas Medical Center and a member of the national Reach Out and Read Program.

Come celebrate all things Dr Seuss! We will read some stories, create fun Seuss inspired crafts & have a Who-feast! All ages welcome.
Seuss Party Menu:
- Green Eggs & Ham inspired by the book, Green Eggs and Ham. How to make Green Eggs & Ham.
- Design your own sandwiches. Make your favorite sandwiches, then let the children draw pictures of their favorite Seuss characters on the bread using food coloring markers (available in the baking aisle at grocery stores).
- Rainbow Goldfish crackers inspired by the book, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.
- Goldfish Jello bowl inspired by the book, The Cat in the Hat. Tip: You can purchase plastic goldfish at U.S. Toy, or buy gummy fish at Target. How to make an edible fish bowl.
- Ringling Bros. Animal crackers inspired by the book, If I Ran the Circus.
- Serve apples, bananas, and milk. Inspired by, Hop on Pop.
- Topsy Turvy Cake inspired by the book, Happy Birthday to You. How to make a Topsy Turvy Cake.
Seuss Fun & Games:
- Make "Cat in the Hat Hats."
- Play "Pass the Hat." Have everyone sit in a circle and give one person a hat. While music is playing, pass the hat to the person to your right, they must put it on, then pass it to the person on their right, until the music stops. Once the music stops, the person with the hat is out of the game. Continue until one person remains. Inspired by The Cat in the Hat.
- Play "How Many Socks can you Wear." Gather a collection of socks and place them in a pile. Set a timer for 30 or 60 seconds and start a race to see how many socks everyone can put on in that amount of time. The person wearing the most socks on their feet when the timer stops is the winner. Tip: It's best to use the largest socks in the family so they'll easily fit and layer. Inspired by Fox in Socks.
- Play "Sam Says." Switch up classic "Simon Says" by saying "Sam says" instead. Give the audience basic instructions like, "Sam Says jump on one foot." Every time the phrase, "Sam says" is used, instructions should be followed. If you do not say, "Sam says," they should not follow the instructions. Inspired by Sam I Am.
- Play "Imitations." The leader makes sounds (i.e. animals, beeps, machines, etc) and the audience tries to imitate each noise. Begin with single sounds, then add patterns. Once a sound is forgotten, or too difficult to imitate, the game ends. Inspired by Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?.
- Go on a "Whoville Hunt." Hide a cotton ball somewhere in your home and have the children hunt for it. Whoever finds it gets to hide it next. Inspired by Horton Hears a Who!.
- Plant a seed. Inspired by The Lorax.
- Water color paint, color with markers, or decorate with decoupage these Dr. Seuss Coloring Pages.
- Play Seussville Games.
- Write silly poems. Create stories. Draw illustrations for your favorite Seuss stories. Or, create a book of your own with construction paper. Seuss celebrated reading and early literacy and simple literary fun will spark a love for books.
- Play with toys you have that "fit the theme." If you have the game Elefun, it works well for Horton Hears a Who!. Assemble creations with Marble Works or Tinker Toys to resemble Whoville. Use play-dough to sculpt Seuss characters. And, don't forget to read a few of your favorite Dr. Seuss books from your family collection!
