Growing up we always had a real tree. But, I don’t have any stories of family outings to the tree farm to cut down the perfect tree, as we always purchased our tree from Ted Drewes. Yes, that Ted Drewes, the St. Louis custard shop. Custard and a Christmas tree in one stop, very handy!
Since having kids, we have opted for an artificial tree. I like the ease of it but I miss the real tree smell. For years I have tried many different options to help recreate that real tree smell. I bought some ornaments that were supposed to be pine scented. They were a dud and didn’t really smell like anything. Tried candles, which I like, but when the candle is extinguished the smell is gone as well. I did some oils and sticks and it wasn’t a very strong scent.
But I was not going to give up, and I think this year, I have finally found what I’ve been looking for (and yes, the reference to U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” was intentional). I got an Air Wick plug in oil warmer and their Tree Trimming scented oil. It’s perfect! Our tree sits in the living room which is right off the front door, so as soon as you enter our home you get that tree smell. I just love it and the smell of the tree just add to my enjoyment of the season! BTW, I have also tried the Air Wick Baked Apple Strudel and it was terrific as well!
