Make a splash with your family as Kansas City celebrates some of our newest attractions and additions! Our beloved Nikita the polar bear welcomed a new girlfriend, Berlin, to the Kansas City Zoo, where the pair can now be found swimming and dazzling visitors. SEA LIFE Kansas City Aquarium welcomed Gertrude the green sea turtle, the first endangered sea turtle to make a home in Missouri. She’s just one of many wonderful sea animals to be found at the indoor aquarium. This summer, our family is excited to attend Starlight Theatre’s outdoor productions, including the beloved Disney classic, Little Mermaid, a show full of oohs and aahs for all ages! And, several local municipalities have opened brand new aquatic facilities or renovated old ones—see our complete guide to great water parks and pools in Kansas City.
It’s exciting to celebrate the new with our children, but it is also special to share treasured traditions. Spring always brings kite flying and attending the annual Flights of Fancy Festival at MCC-Longview, enjoying great parks and viewing beautiful blooms at Powell Gardens. We make it an annual tradition to kick off the summer by attending Celebration at the Station at Union Station every Memorial Day weekend—and then the fun begins! Whether it is a day of thrills riding coasters at Worlds of Fun, cheering for a favorite sports team or attending local festivals, there is something for everyone to enjoy all summer long.
Our family also enjoys making memories at Kansas City’s off-the-beaten-path destinations. Whether it is selecting the perfect outfit for a beloved doll at The Doll Cradle, enjoying a tour of a local museum, trying a new restaurant or touring one of Kansas City’s historic sites, our kids always have fun trying something new.
And, that is just what KC Going Places is all about. Whether you’ve lived in Kansas City your entire life, or you’re a new visitor, you’ll find there is always something new to discover in Kansas City!
