KC Jazz Orchestra: Groove ‘N Learn

The Kansas City Jazz Orchestra’s 18-piece big band invites kids and people of all ages.
Groove ‘n Learn is a high-energy, interactive concert experience designed to introduce school-age children to the joy, history, and creativity of jazz. During this toe-tapping 45-minute musical journey performed live by the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra, young audiences will explore:
- Musical building blocks – melody, harmony, rhythm, tempo
- Instrument families – get to know the trumpet, saxophone, trombone, piano, guitar, bass, and drums
- Jazz fundamentals – improvisation, blues, call-and-response
- Kansas City jazz hallmarks – riffing, swing, and the sounds that put KC on the jazz map
- Jazz legends – meet icons like Count Basie and Duke Ellington
- Creative connections – imagination, communication, and active listening through music
This FREE community event is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Jazz KC Portraits by Dan White now showing at the Truman Library. Museum admission not included.
