Recycling Extravaganza

Rid your home of old items at the Recycling Extravaganza. There is no residency requirement to attend this event.

The following items will be accepted. The links below will direct you to community partners who help with the reuse and disposal of items at the event. If our partners are unable to attend, another organization may collect items in their place.

Accepted Items

Reuse and Donate

All items must be in good or salable condition when donated.

  • Clothing
  • Toys
  • Furniture – Usable furnishings in good condition
  • Eyeglasses – Prescription, readers, eclipse glasses, or sunglasses
  • Hearing Aids – Hearing aids, hearing aid supplies, batteries, and anything related to hearing health (all brands and any ages of devices welcome)
  • Musical Instruments – No pianos, organs, or drums
  • Creative Supplies – Supplies for arts and crafts, school, office, parties, and holidays
  • Shoes
  • Fabric (Unused) – yardage, remnants, precuts, partially completed quilt tops; notions: thread, needles, pins, scissors, cutters, mats, rulers; knitting and crochet: yarn, needles, hooks
  • Bikes
  • Friends of Johnson County Library will collect gently used books, cookbooks, textbooks, complete puzzles, CDs and DVDs

Disposal and Recycling

  • Cell phones – The Overland Park Police Department Victim Services Unit will collect cell phones, with or without chargers, for repurposing through the 911 Cell Phone Bank. These cell phones are refurbished for 911 emergency use and distributed to victims in need.
  • Medications – To preserve space at the event, we encourage pills to be transferred to Ziploc bags. Check with your local animal rescue to see if they accept donations of clean, empty bottles.
  • Tires (up to eight tires per visitor)
  • ShreddingKCREGAP, a greyhound dog rescue organization, will assist in unloading boxes in exchange for a suggested $5 donation per box.
  • Styrofoam – Clean, #6 styrofoam only. No food or drink containers. No packing peanuts or film.
  • Electronics – Most items powered with a cord or a battery, including computers, TVs, printers, etc., and small appliances (minifridge or smaller). $20 per TV. Cash or cards accepted.
