Enjoy the crisp fall air and explore the historic Big Shoal Cemetery during this 1.5-hour walking tour. The program includes a guided tour by costumed interpreters and fall-themed refreshments like spiced apple cider and pumpkin bread. History comes alive aswe give new voices to Clay County’s earliest settlers, veterans and colorful characters.Guests of all ages will learn about the history of the Big Shoal Baptist church and thecemetery, both dating back to the early 1820s. Attendees will hear stories of the area’searliest residents from the founder of Acme Springs to local veterans of the Civil War.The tour concludes with the strange and eerie mourning customs of the Victoriansfollowed by refreshments. All this and more as the Big Shoal Cemetery shares its secretsfor one day only.Tickets are $10 per person and $8 for Friends of the Farm Members. This fee includes thetour and refreshments. Tickets are purchased at the gate on the day of the event.The Big Shoal Cemetery is located just south of the Atkins-Johnson Farm and Museum at 4125NE 64 th Street, Gladstone.
