DESCRIPTION:If you are looking for guided hikes in Kansas City\, our Hike with a Naturalist focuses on habitats around Lakeside Nature Center. The hikes typically occur on the upper Fox Hollow trail which is primarily covered with rock and accessible for most participants. However\, depending on the naturalist\, another part of the Fox Hollow trail might also be incorporated\, which may be a little more challenging for some hikers. For more information on Fox Hollow Trail\, go here. \n\n\nPlease gather outside the main doors of the Nature Center at 10:15 am. The naturalist will meet hikers\, outline the plans for the hike and then lead the group on the trail. \n\n\nHikes will be cancelled in severe weather. Call the Nature Center at (816) 513-8960 for confirmation or more information on the hike. Please prepare and dress appropriately for the weather of the day (i.e. rain gear\, layers of clothing for cold weather\, sunscreen and hats for warm weather\, drinking water\, insect repellent\, closed-toed shoes or boots). \n\n\nThese hikes are not appropriate for children in strollers as there are rocks and logs to step over and hills and valleys to traverse. Children may hike or be carried.

Check for other City events\, or use RecycleSpot to find another option. \n  \nAccepted Items\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReuse and Donate\nAll items must be in good or salable condition when donated. \n\nClothing\nToys\nFurniture – Usable furnishings in good condition\nEyeglasses – Prescription\, readers\, eclipse glasses\, or sunglasses\nHearing Aids – Hearing aids\, hearing aid supplies\, batteries\, and anything related to hearing health (all brands and any ages of devices welcome)\nMusical Instruments – No pianos\, organs\, or drums\nCreative Supplies – Supplies for arts and crafts\, school\, office\, parties\, and holidays\nShoes\nFabric (Unused) – yardage\, remnants\, precuts\, partially completed quilt tops; notions: thread\, needles\, pins\, scissors\, cutters\, mats\, rulers; knitting and crochet: yarn\, needles\, hooks\nBikes\nFriends of Johnson County Library will collect gently used books\, cookbooks\, textbooks\, complete puzzles\, CDs and DVDs\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDisposal and Recycling\n\nCell phones – The Overland Park Police Department Victim Services Unit will collect cell phones\, with or without chargers\, for repurposing through the 911 Cell Phone Bank. These cell phones are refurbished for 911 emergency use and distributed to victims in need.\nMedications – To preserve space at the event\, we encourage pills to be transferred to Ziploc bags. Check with your local animal rescue to see if they accept donations of clean\, empty bottles.\nTires (up to eight tires per visitor)\nShredding – KCREGAP\, a greyhound dog rescue organization\, will assist in unloading boxes in exchange for a suggested $5 donation per box.\nStyrofoam – Clean\, #6 styrofoam only. No food or drink containers. No packing peanuts or film.\nElectronics – Most items powered with a cord or a battery\, including computers\, TVs\, printers\, etc.\, and small appliances (minifridge or smaller). $20 per TV. Cash or cards accepted.\n\n\n
