What is Regenerative Agriculture?
Regenerative Agriculture describes farming and grazing practices that, among other benefits, reverse climate change by rebuilding soil organic matter and restoring degraded soil biodiversity – resulting in a delicious, high quality and nutritious protein source!
Comparing Nutrient Content
When comparing eggs from hens raised on pasture to factory-farmed caged hens, the pastured eggs have twice the vitamin E and long-chain omega 3 fats, 38% higher concentration of vitamin A, and less than half the ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 fatty acids. (Karsten, PaWerson, Stout, & Crews, 2010) In addition to better quality fats, pastured eggs are also higher in other vitamins and minerals.
Grass-fed beef displays similar differences in fat quality and nutrient content when compared to conventional grain-fed. Studies also reveal increases in cancer-fighting antioxidants such as glutathione and superoxide dismutase have been found in grass-fed beef vs. grain-fed. (Daley, AbboW, Doyle, Nader, & Larson, 2010)
Support Local Regenerative Farms
Opting for locally raised & produced food ensures that it stays packed with its intended and initial nutrients (and flavor!). Buying local helps strengthen communities because when you buy directly from the farmer, you are building a relationship while also supporting local farmers who provide for you as much as they provide for their own families.
