GloWild at the Kansas City Zoo
Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium 6800 Zoo Dr., Kansas City, Missouri 64132
See the Kansas City Zoo in a whole new light this fall with a new, completely unique and immersive nighttime experience, GloWild. This lantern festival will be the largest of its kind in the Midwest, featuring massive steel and silk works of art that include animals, local landmarks, botanicals, and Asian cultural creations. In partnership with Zigong Lantern Group (www.zigonglanterngroup.com), the world’s premier lantern manufacturer, GloWild will illuminate the Kansas City Zoo with custom handmade lighted sculptures, including a few that can be walked through and others that have moving parts. The lanterns will be spread throughout the topside of the Zoo from September 1 to December 11. Guests will walk a one-way pathway through the display with opportunities to stop to enjoy photo-ops, concessions, shopping, and entertainment. This evening event will require a separate timed ticket from daily Zoo admission.
Tickets will go on sale online exclusively for Friends of the Zoo members on Monday, May 16.
The general public will be able to purchase tickets starting Monday, May 30.
Lantern festivals have been dated to over 70,000 years ago as a way to celebrate history and tradition through incredibly detailed illuminated displays. The Zoo is excited to bring this tradition to the Kansas City area to honor our love of nature, its creatures, and our community, as well as the amazing artistry of the lantern sculptures.
