Kelley Hunt is known for her blend of roots, rock and soul in superbly crafted songs that blend timeless music with a contemporary perspective.

During this fun outdoor concert, Hunt will draw on the favorites, as well as new material likely to appear on an album to be released later this year.

In some ways, roots, R&B and Americana singer/songwriter/piano player/guitarist Hunt is a rarity and challenge to the music industry’s penchant for easy artist definitions. She’s a woman who has muscled her way onto the scene on her own terms with an identity steeped in blues, roots and gospel traditions with refreshing originality. Her commanding and passionate stage presence and superior vocal, keyboard and songwriting skills have earned the respect of critics and fans across North America and Europe.

Born in Kansas City, Hunt’s love for her craft was ignited early by the influences of Ruth Brown, Mahalia Jackson, Billie Holiday, Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin, as well as a cross-section of the New Orleans/St. Louis/Kansas City piano traditions of Professor Longhair, Toots Washington, Johnnie Johnson and Kansas City masters Jay McShann and Mary Lou Williams. Reminders of these very traditional influences are evident in Hunt’s live performances and recordings, but the lyrics, soul and passion are all her own.

Hunt’s 2014 release, “The Beautiful Bones,” is her sixth release and fourth as co-producer. It’s been universally hailed by press, radio and fans as the best work of her career. The album offers a dozen superbly crafted songs that draw on modern life with grace, humor and gravity through the earthy poetry of her lyrics. Those songs are buoyed by a performance style that balances Hunt’s virtuosity with down-home gospel, soul and R&B – all part of her DNA.
