SUMMARY:The Nostalgia Awakens: Retro Kenner Star Wars Action Figure Toys
DESCRIPTION:Embark on an intergalactic voyage to see The Nostalgia Awakens: Retro Kenner Star Wars Action Figure Toys\, The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures‘ upcoming exhibition featuring EVERY action figure toy made by Kenner Toys from 1978-1985 based on the original three Star Wars movies. \nWhen Star Wars hit the movie theaters in 1977\, it instantly became a box office smash\, especially with children. Kids wanting to bring the action home from the theater with them could find their favorite heroes\, villains\, creatures\, and spaceships in miniature size on the toy shelves. From 1978 to 1985\, Kenner Toys manufactured hundreds of action figures\, vehicles\, and playsets featured in the movies Star Wars (1977)\, The Empire Strikes Back (1980)\, and Return of the Jedi (1982). These toys today are as iconic as the movies themselves.

SUMMARY:Ripples: Water\, Community\, and You
DESCRIPTION:Open Feb. 8\, 2025 – Jan. 10\, 2026\nWater is the lifeblood of human civilization\, shaping our history\, economy\, and environment. “Ripples” explores how water has connected us all—past\, present\, and future. From ancient inland seas to today’s interconnected watersheds\, humans have always relied on water for survival\, trade\, agriculture\, recreation\, and more. But as we face increasing challenges like historic droughts\, floods\, and pollution\, our relationship with water has never been more complex. \nVisitors to “Ripples” will dive into Johnson County’s award-winning modern water management\, the ways humans have both controlled and been shaped by water\, and the evolving mindset that views water and humans as interdependent. The exhibit showcases the region’s history through interactive displays\, artifacts\, and stories that illustrate the ripples left by past decisions and the ones we continue to create today. \nNow available as a book! Stop by the Museum Store to pick up a copy of “Ripples: Water\, Community\, and You.” Open Monday – Saturday\, 9:00 am – 4:30 pm.

SUMMARY:Pottery Under the Stars
DESCRIPTION:Join us for “Pottery Under the Stars” where art and astronomy will collide in this meditative\, hands-on Star Tour at the Arvin Gottlieb Planetarium! Build a pinch pot with local ceramic artist and community educator Caroline\, as we tour the sky in search of constellations that have inspired artists for thousands of years. No clay experience needed; appropriate for ages 5+. \nFor this special tour of the season’s night sky\, we explore how people across time and space have immortalized their stories of the stars in clay; from an ancient cuneiform tablet that solved a centuries old mystery to a contemporary artist facing the darkness of the universe through her work. As we go\, participants will form their clay pots almost entirely in the dark\, encouraging a deeper awareness of the sense of touch. \nParticipants will be able to take their creations home at the end of the event to air-dry and paint if desired. \nArrive early to catch a pottery wheel demo in the lobby at 6pm!

SUMMARY:Bring Out The Books
DESCRIPTION:Bring Out the Books is the best double play—baseball and books. \nRoyals baseball is for everyone. So\, we’re going to make it even more accessible while boosting children’s literacy here in Kansas City! Beginning on July 25\, each home game\, up to 100 fans can exchange a new or gently used children’s book for a View Reserved ticket to a game on that same date. \nHere’s how it works: one (1) book donation per fan in exchange for one (1) ticket redemption per fan. Before the game\, bring your books to Gate E at Kauffman Stadium. The ticket window will open 30 minutes before stadium gates and will remain open until first pitch or until all vouchers have been handed out. Just hand in your book and receive your ticket voucher! \nLearn more about our other literacy-focused initiatives at royals.com/literacyleague.
