SUMMARY:Ripples: Water\, Community\, and You
DESCRIPTION:Open Feb. 8\, 2025 – Jan. 10\, 2026\nWater is the lifeblood of human civilization\, shaping our history\, economy\, and environment. “Ripples” explores how water has connected us all—past\, present\, and future. From ancient inland seas to today’s interconnected watersheds\, humans have always relied on water for survival\, trade\, agriculture\, recreation\, and more. But as we face increasing challenges like historic droughts\, floods\, and pollution\, our relationship with water has never been more complex. \nVisitors to “Ripples” will dive into Johnson County’s award-winning modern water management\, the ways humans have both controlled and been shaped by water\, and the evolving mindset that views water and humans as interdependent. The exhibit showcases the region’s history through interactive displays\, artifacts\, and stories that illustrate the ripples left by past decisions and the ones we continue to create today. \nNow available as a book! Stop by the Museum Store to pick up a copy of “Ripples: Water\, Community\, and You.” Open Monday – Saturday\, 9:00 am – 4:30 pm.

SUMMARY:Hike with a Naturalist
DESCRIPTION:If you are looking for guided hikes in Kansas City\, our Hike with a Naturalist focuses on habitats around Lakeside Nature Center. The hikes typically occur on the upper Fox Hollow trail which is primarily covered with rock and accessible for most participants. However\, depending on the naturalist\, another part of the Fox Hollow trail might also be incorporated\, which may be a little more challenging for some hikers. For more information on Fox Hollow Trail\, go here. \nPlease gather outside the main doors of the Nature Center at 10:15 am. The naturalist will meet hikers\, outline the plans for the hike and then lead the group on the trail. \nHikes will be cancelled in severe weather. Call the Nature Center at (816) 513-8960 for confirmation or more information on the hike. Please prepare and dress appropriately for the weather of the day (i.e. rain gear\, layers of clothing for cold weather\, sunscreen and hats for warm weather\, drinking water\, insect repellent\, closed-toed shoes or boots). \nThese hikes are not appropriate for children in strollers as there are rocks and logs to step over and hills and valleys to traverse.
