Martin City St. Patrick's Parade
Martin City Community Improvement District 411 E 135th St, Kansas City, Missouri
THEME: Be Inspired: Martin City’s Entrepreneurial Spirit
The very first Martin City parade in 1987 consisted of four Martin City business owners who grabbed their friends, hopped into two cars and a horse & buggy, and held an impromptu St. Patrick’s “parade” down 135th Street. The parade still takes place on 135th street but over the years, it’s become an inspiring showcase of more than 60+ entries – a mix of floats, dance teams, schools, businesses, car clubs, dignitaries, senior citizens, animal groups, and more.
This year, parade entries are strongly encouraged to showcase the entrepreneurs and business owners behind the company or brand, or incorporate inspirational displays of how the company was started, how long they’ve been in business, something they’ve achieved or accomplished that makes them proud, or other entrepreneur-inspired designs in their float, dance, cheer, music, or entry decorations. There is NO entry fee to be part of the parade!
What Happens on parade day?
The parade begins in Martin City at 2:00 PM departing from the State Line Point Shopping Center parking lot at Washington Street and 135th Street and will proceed east across 135th Street to Holmes Road. The parade usually concludes around 3:30 p.m. Organizers ask that candy not be thrown during the parade but it can be handed out by participants on foot.
