See the full moon with telescopes from the Astronomical Society of Kansas City.
Experience the magic of Night at the Arboretum during the New Moon phase. This is the perfect time of the year to observe faint celestial objects like galaxies and star clusters without any interference from moonlight. The Astronomical Society of Kansas City will provide telescopes for optimal stargazing. Family-friendly activities kick off at 6 p.m., and the Arboretum closes at 9 p.m. This experience is free with regular Arboretum admission and is open to stargazers of all ages.
All activities are included with regular Arboretum admission.
2024 Schedule:
- January 25 - Activities in the LongHouse, Operation Wildlife will present "Night Shift" and the KC Astronomical Society will have telescopes for viewing.
- February 9-Activities in the LongHouse, KC Astronomical Society will have telescopes for viewing.
- March 20 - Activities in the LongHouse, Operation Wildlife will present "Don't Touch That Baby" and the KC Astronomical Society will have telescopes for viewing.
- October 7 - Activities in the LongHouse, Operation Wildlife will present "Migration" and the KC Astronomical Society will have telescopes for viewing.
- October 21-KC Astronomical Society will be there with telescopes. Activities in LongHouse regarding the Orionids Meteor Shower.
- November 15 - Activities in the LongHouse, Operation Wildlife will present "Falcons" and the KC Astronomical Society will have telescopes for viewing.
- All telescope viewing is weather permitting. Extreme cold or clouds will prevent us from hosting this activity.
